I Love Paranormal Stuff

The word paranormal comes from the words "para" meaning beyond, and normal. So the term paranormal really means something that is beyond the normal scope of science or being beyond a scientific explanation.

I have always been fascinated by anything paranormal. Whether it's ghosts, psychics, mediums or anything else slighty resembling something paranormal, you can bet I'll be trying to learn all I can about it. Right now, I'm totally into the show "Ghost Hunters" on the Sci-Fi channel. Jason and Grant are so down to earth and believeable it's hard not to get hooked. How can you not be a fan of two guys who are plumbers by day and ghost hunters by night? Be sure to check out the show; you won't be sorry.

What Is Paranormal Investigation

The word paranormal comes from the words "para" meaning beyond, and normal. So the term paranormal really means something that is beyond the normal scope of science or being beyond a scientific explanation. According to the Journal of Parapsychology, the term paranormal describes "any phenomenon that in one or more respects exceeds the limits of what is deemed physically possible according to current scientific assumptions."

Parapsychology is the study of the evidence involving phenomena where a person seems to affect or to gain information about something through a means not currently explainable within the framework of mainstream, conventional science. Proponents of the existence of these phenomena usually consider them to be a product of unexplained mental abilities.

Common examples of psychic phenomena are telepathy, extra-sensory perception (ESP), psychokinesis, and after-life things such as reincarnation, ghosts, and hauntings. Also included in the category of paranormal are aspects of UFOs, some creatures that fall under the scope of cryptozoology, the Bermuda Triangle, and many other such subjects.

The Scoop on Ghost Hunting

Ghost hunting is the process of investigating locations said to be haunted.

Category: Image - :Nightshot2.png|thumb|right|200px|"Ghost hunter" taking reading with EMF meter

Typically, a ghost "hunting party" will involve 4-8 individuals who work as a team to collect evidence of paranormal activity. Ghost hunters often employ electronic equipment of various types, such as; EMF Meters, digital thermometers, infrared, thermographic, and night vision cameras, handheld video cameras, digital audio recorders, and computers. Organized teams of ghost hunters are also called paranormal investigation teams.

Critics of ghost hunting say there is a total lack of scientifically testable and verifiable evidence in favor of the existence of ghosts, despite centuries of interest in the subject.Reality Check: Ghost Hunters and ?Ghost Detectors'

Principles of Ghost Hunting & Investigation

The basics of ghost hunting & investigation include going to a place were there may have been sightings of ghosts and/or other occurrences of things that are out of the ordinary. Popular places for investigations are graveyards, churches, schools and older buildings. Places like hospitals, prisons, and mental health facilities are usually full of strange happenings just because of the nature of the places themselves.

Ghost hunters usually record data in a scientific manner, making observation using electronic equipment of various types, such as; EMF Meters, digital thermometers, infrared and night vision cameras, handheld video cameras, digital audio recorders, and computers. Organized teams of ghost hunters are also called paranormal investigation teams.

Investigators will sometimes conduct interviews and analyze evidence to prove/disprove the haunting and to assist the owners and if requested, help the spirits to move on if need be. The investigators can provide the assistance directly or put the owners in contact with experienced groups or individuals that will try to resolve the situation.

About DeniseN

Hello.  My name is Denise, but most people call me Dee.  I'm interested in lots of things and I have a variety of lenses to prove it.

I've been a fan of gymnastics since I was a little girl and I remember watching Mary Lou Retton in the Olympics way back when...

Another major interest of mine is the paranormal. I've always been fascinated by the paranormal. I'm constantly reading, researching, watching the latest TV shows, documentaries and movies about paranormal stuff to learn everything I can. I am especially attracted to haunted lighthouses and hope to investigate some in person and possibly write a book about it.

Another of my goals is to attend a ghost-hunting session with TAPS - I think they are the coolest!

P.S. I'm also a huge fan of Hanson!
