About My Parental Control Software Review

With this Parental Control Software Review I want to give you an overview about three different programs. First I will present you the assessment criteria, that you should have an eye on if you want to buy such software. Then I show you the evaluation results and at the end I will give you my personal summary of this review. I hope I can save you a little bit of your precious time within your decision finding process.

Parental Control Software Review - Assessment Criteria

As I also mentioned in my general article about Parental Control Software, assessment criteria for the evaluation will be the following:
  • A free trial

With so many different competitors it is important that you have the possibility to try your Parental Control Software first, before you pay for it.

  • Chat monitoring

Our children are most vulnerable to sexual predators in online chat and instant messaging. Your Parental Control Software should be able to monitor these conversations.

  • Ease of use

You should feel comfortable using a product. Watch out for a Parental Control Software that doesn't demand you to study computer sciences first to be able to handle it.

  • Stealth Mode

A good Parental Control Software operates in stealth mode, so your children don't know that you are watching them. Stealth mode means, your software is completely invisible after installation.

  • More than one computer

With a lot of these Parental Internet Control Programs you have to buy one license for every computer you want to monitor. This can get expensive, if you need several licences.

Parental Control Software Review - The Evaluation

Below I have ranked the top three Parental Control Software Products available online.

#1 - PC Tattletale

Simply the best

Rank: 1
Price: $49.95
Website: pctattletale.com

Description: PC Tattletale is my #1 Parental Control Software. It has excellent monitoring features for email, chat and instant messaging. The filtering tool is one of the most advanced you can find at all. You can block specific web sites, or block web pages in general that contain certain content by keyword or phrase. Ease of use is excellent too, you will not have any problems handling it. Just in case, they offer you a 24/7 toll free live help per phone for the firs 14 days after your purchase. It runs in stealth mode, is virtually invisible. You can use the licence for two computers, and it comes with a 7 day full version trial.

#2 - CyberSieve

Not bad either

Rank: 2
Price: $34.95
Website: softforyou.com

Description: CyberSieve gets the 2. place in my ranking. It's a good Parental Control Software, too. It can be run in stealth mode. You get a 14 day free trial version. Price is ok, but you have to buy a licence for every computer you want to monitor. It is not that easy to use like the other two programs, but for someone with a little bit of computer skills no problem. The only real disadvantage of this Parental Control Software is the chat monitoring feature. Instead of monitoring, it blocks chat and instant messaging conversations containing inappropriate words. But there is the conflict with running in stealth mode. Because your children will realise quite fast, that something is going on, when their chat is blocked if they use certain kinds of words.

#3 - IamBigBrother

Not exactly my choice

Rank: 3
Price: $29.95
Website: iambigbrother.com

Description: IamBigBrother is my 3. choice. It offers the easiest use, but live support is really poor. Monitoring features for chat and instant messaging are great, but there are no filtering tools at all. In other words, you can't define web sites your child can't access, it is a pure monitoring program. That might be great, if you just want to know what your child is doing online, but doesn't prevent it to stumble over web sites with inappropriate content. Stealth mode is always on. Price includes licence for one computer only. If you want web based remote access from any computer with Internet access in the world, you have to pay an extra 9.99/month. There is a live demo on the website, but no free trial version.

Parental Control Software Review - My Summary

While IamBigBrother may is an easy to use monitoring program, the missing of filtering tools makes it for me as father not very useful. CyberSieve is a good Parental Control Software, but the chat monitoring function is not that sophisticated as I like it. PC Tattletale is my absolute #1. It covers all the features I need, the licence includes two computers and the support is really great. I have PC Tattletale installed since three years now, and I never had any problems at all. If you want to buy a Parental Control Software, I can only recommend you PC Tattletale.
