Paris the Capital of France

As the capital of France, Paris is a large city; over the years it has become one of the most visited cities in the world. Many couples decide to take short stay in Paris as it is probably the most romantic city in the world; if you have more time, it will make for a remarkable holiday, with many great sites to see.

It is renowned for its wonderful Gothic inspired buildings and street markets; plus sights like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and many other places that are havens for tourists, both home grown and international. Traveling around Paris is relatively easy for visitors as well as locals; the Metro underground system is easy to understand, efficient and reaches everywhere even the most enthusiastic tourist would want to visit.

The Eiffel Tower at over 300 meters tall is a magnificent steel structure; it's visible throughout most of the city but the views from the top of this huge steel structure are even more impressive. At night, it comes alive with lights that have to be seen to be believed; taking a tour at the same time will teach you much more about this remarkable structure.

The famous Paris Avenue 'the Champs Elysees' must also receive a visit; it's where you will find all the top class hotels, shops and restaurants. This is an 'up-market' area that attracts thousands of tourists each day; it is also where most of the five star hotels are situated but thankfully hotels tend to be cheaper once you move away from the city center.

A trip to would not be complete without a visit to the Louvre museum; it houses over three hundred thousand exhibits but not all of them are ever on display at the same time. There are so many exhibits here they cannot all be viewed during a short stay in Paris; the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo statue just two of many appreciated works of art. Many well known artists spent years of their lives in Paris; the likes of Monet, Picasso and many others lived in the city for years and some of their work can still be seen today.

The Arc de Triomphe another famous landmark was built by Napoleon in 1806; to honor his generals (and his troops) he had their names inscribed upon it. Many people do not know that an observatory was included in the design which affords great views of the surrounding area; it stands in the place where the city's main avenues begin including the Champs Elysees.

Obviously, these are not the only places to visit; these are however, the most popular with regular tours arranged, many of which are either free or at a subsidized cost. A short stay in Paris will definitely be a busy one even if only a few sights are visited; the likes of medieval churches, buildings and castles, which it has in abundance, will have to wait until another time.
