Now that the winter is over and it is getting warmer, there is no point in buying a patio heater any more, you will say. But, that is where you are wrong! They will be going back once more in the fall, but until then, this is their home. Get up early in the morning to listen to their chatter and feel the peace within. With the patio heater on you will never feel the urge to go back under the quilt.

Some patio heaters are portable; others remain fixed. There are three types of the later variety. Some are fixed on the wall, some on the ceiling. However, the majority of them are fixed on the ground. Before you buy such a heater, decide where you want it to be installed. Ideally, they should be put up in some sheltered spot away from the path of wind flow, so that the heat is not blown away and wasted. Of course, there is no such fear if it is an infrared patio heater because in such a case the heater does not heat up the air in between, but only the solid object that comes in its path.

This brings us to the second point - the classification of patio heaters according to the fuel it uses. They can run on propane gas, electricity and wood. While the electric patio heaters are themselves eco friendly, the grid electricity they run on produces more than three times carbon dioxide than gas while being produced from coal. Therefore, if you want to heat up your patio without causing much of an environmental degradation, your choice should be centered on outdoor patio heater.

Indeed, there are different models of outdoor propane heaters. You can have them mounted at one place, but most of the users prefer the portable variety so that they can take it to wherever they would like to sit. The portable variety too can be of different types. There are tabletop outdoor propane heaters and there are table patio heaters. The last mentioned patio heater acts as the leg of the table and comes with a tabletop. This is a good choice for people with a small patio. There are other verities too.

Generally, all of them are mounted on wheels for easy transportation. However, it is important to see that it is fitted with anti-tilt shut off mechanism, so that it shuts off if accidentally pushed. However, before you buy a patio heater, your first consideration should be how much heat you need and that will depend upon factors like how large an area you are trying to heat, how many people will be normally sitting there and what is the temperature you will be normally battling. The BHU or the heating capacity of your patio heater should depend on the answer to these questions. Only after you have decided on it can you turn your attention to style or make.
