The Peak district or The Peak District national park to give it its proper title is actually quite substantial in size covering an area that takes in not only the northern part of Derbyshire but also parts of Cheshire, greater Manchester, and in addition, south and west Yorkshire and Staffordshire.

Peak District Accommodation

Staying In The Peak District

The Peak District covering such a large area has many scattered towns and villages which only goes further towards creating the lovely atmosphere that surrounds the area.

Many of the the old farm houses and homes have been converted into gorgeous Peak District holiday cottages and bed and breakfast accommodation and quite a few of them have traditional fires which gives them the quaint country cottage feel.

If self catering is not your thing then there are also a number of luxury hotels in the Peak District as well, so anyone visiting here will find the accommodation that suits them best.

One of the most popular places to visit and stay though has to be Bakewell which is siad to be home of the Bakewell tart, although purists will tell you otherwise, apparantly their is a huge difference between a tart and a pudding , but we'll let the locals tell you all about that.

Bakewell holiday accommodation is plentiful but like any tourist areas the best accommodation gets booked first so don't leave it too late before making your choice.

Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronte Derbyshire

Charlotte Bronte stayed at Hathersage Church Vicarage for three weeks in the summer of 1845, the year before she started to write Jane Eyre. So she would have been very aware of the chime of the church clock, the sound Jane Eyre hears that draws her to 'Morton'. Charlotte Bronte walked up to the moors and also visited North Lees Hall, then occupied by Mary Eyre and her family. There are Eyre family graves in the churchyard. Many believe Hathersage was the 'Morton' of Jane Eyre and that North Lees Hall was the model for 'Thornfield'. Scenes from Jane Eyre 2006 were filmed on Stanage Edge.
