Like it? Not at all...I love it! I still use a candy thermometer for my recipe (which to me is not a big deal - but it scares some folks). Have to say though, that it was interesting to see exactly what that "soft ball" marker on my thermometer actually looked like ;o)

  • PoetFlow Feb 2, 2012 @ 7:35 am | delete
Oh gosh!!! This took me back some years... I remember only ONCE my mother made peanut butter fudge when we were kids (she added crushed biscuits to it) and it was YUMMMMMMY!!! Since that time I haven't had it, for some strange reason. But this recipe is so easy and quick- now I can have it all the time. I want to know though, with this method, can I add something like chocolate or berries?
  • Sylvestermouse Feb 2, 2012 @ 10:48 am | delete
I honestly don't know. I have never tried adding anything to my mom's peanut butter fudge recipe. I would be interesting to test it though. I think I would probably wait to add anything extra until I was pouring the fudge to set. I would probably line the bottom of the pan with whatever I wanted to add and then pour the fudge over it and let it set that way. Do make sure whatever you are adding (like the berries) that they are completely dry. Any moisture could keep the fudge from setting or hardening properly. Thanks for the comments and the ideas.
  • wvclaylady Feb 1, 2012 @ 11:53 pm | delete
Oh my goodness!!! I LOVE peanut butter fudge!!! Too much!!!! LOL I have never seen this type of recipe before, and I'm anxious to try it!
  • thomanna Feb 1, 2012 @ 5:57 pm | delete
My grandmother used to make an incredible PB fudge. My dad also knew how to make it. They are both with the Lord now and I don't have the recipe. Reading your recipe gave me a few huge memory flashbacks of seeing my dad check for "softball" stage in a glass of cold water. I also remember the butter and milk while it is cooling. I'm going to try this recipe. Its probably just how they made it, and if not exact, probably close enough to be nostalgic. One more quick thing. My grandmother used to make PB fudge AND chocolate fudge and layer them. PB chocolate fudge. It was like a Reese's cup but much richer...just for the holiday's kind of candy. I highly suggest giving it a shot. Loved the lense!
  • GeniePark Feb 1, 2012 @ 4:29 pm | delete

What would happen if I used chunky peanut butter instead of creamy - and Adams natural peanut butter instead of one with extra additives? Would that still work?
  • Sylvestermouse Dec 10, 2011 @ 10:14 am | delete
I can't say for sure, but I do personally know a few people who used substitute ingredients, their peanut butter fudge has not been an equivalent to my mom's recipe. I did hear from one reader that they substituted chunky peanut butter and they were extremely happy with the results.

Sounds like a softer version of these lollipops I used to love getting as a kid.
  • cgreen7090 Sep 24, 2011 @ 11:58 pm | delete
Well, the recipe looks the same as my mom's but it never takes me that long to get mine to soft ball stage. I use a candy thermometer, and with an electric range, it's usually between 8 and 9 minutes. But they say the weather and humidity affects that, so your environment could be a factor. Thanks for sharing!
  • Sylvestermouse Sep 26, 2011 @ 3:51 pm | delete
That is very true! Humidity will certainly affect fudge. On a rainy day, the fudge will turn out a bit sticky. I thought about commenting on that in the article when I originally wrote it :)

I think that my dad introduced me to my love for fudge... and it doesn't get any better than peanut butter. And I do remember never owning a candy thermometer. She just knew when it was at the right temp by using the water method!

Oh my gosh, I can't wait to make these. These are perfect for Halloween. The kids are going to have a blast. Do you by chance know if there is a way of making diabetic fudge? My father is diabetic but I know he use to LOVE this stuff.
  • Sylvestermouse Sep 9, 2010 @ 6:50 pm | delete
I did a search for a substitute recipe for your father. This one uses similar ingredients, but instead of sugar, it uses Splenda. Hope it helps:

Thank you, I'm going to make the one you have here but also try my hands at this one and see if it'll turn out. It may make a great Christmas gift for him. He lives on the opposite side of the state so we don't see each other often, I think this would be a nice treat to send in the mail. (I always worry about sending him his favorite foods)

I'm usually not that into peanut butter, but I have to admit that this fudge looks delicious. My husband, on the other hand, is a pb addict and would absolutely love this! I definitely have to try this one. Thank you for sharing it! Fived and faved :-)
  • WritingforYourWealth Feb 10, 2010 @ 5:24 pm | delete
I get natural PB with flax seeds in it (nice slightly crunchy texture) from Trader Joe's. I wonder how that would work as fudge. Hard to go wrong with all that butter and sugar, lol.

I love peanut butter fudge! I just polished off a batch around the holidays, so my next batch of fudge will have to wait for a little bit. Chocolate is my weak spot! This looks delicious, well done!

I haven't eaten yet today, and, right now, all I can think about is fudge. I haven't had fudge in WAY too long. I wonder if I could pull this recipe off. (I have a knack for not doing so well in the kitchen.) But I DO have all the ingredients on hand. Hmmm...

We've made chocolate peanut butter fudge for years but have never tried just peanut butter. I think we'll do that this year. This would make great gifts, I think. I love to cook almost as much as I love to Squidoo so I'm always looking for great recipes. Thanks!
  • KNicholls Oct 22, 2009 @ 7:11 pm | delete
I LOVE peanut butter fudge and have a family recipe I make every year. My aunt used to make it and can't beat it to get it smooth, so it became my chore. Now I'm teaching nieces and nephews how to do it. Great lens!

  • puzzlemaker Oct 10, 2009 @ 8:22 am | delete
My family is crazy over peanut butter. I've made fudge a couple of times and it didn't turn out right. I used a thermometer to make sure I was at soft ball stage etc., but still it was grainy. Maybe the recipe I used wasn't the greatest. I'd like to give this one a try.
  • Sylvestermouse Oct 1, 2009 @ 3:02 pm | delete
I have never tried it with the crunchy peanut butter. I just called my mom and she said she has never tried that either, but she does not think it will matter other than making the fudge "nutty." Please let me know if you try it. [in reply to theraggededge]
  • theraggededge Oct 1, 2009 @ 2:27 pm | delete
Oooohh! I like making fudge - must give this one a try. Wonder what it would be like with the crunchy variety??
