I love juices made with green fruits and veggies. So healthy and delicious at the same time. You can mix ingredients you would never imagine together, but juice'em up and they make a yummy drink!
  • SparkleChi Feb 2, 2011 @ 2:45 pm | delete
CHalloran, One of my favorite things about mixing the fruits with the veggies is that everyone in the house will drink the creation! I can just add more or less fruit as needed to please each person!

I made the parsley/pear green smoothie, cutting back a bit on the coconut oil, and it tasted great, Please remember though that parsley is a powerful natural diuretic! You may experience some surprising results!

This looked like an interesting smoothie recipe, even if it isn't green. I made it into dessert the other night. I used rice milk instead (soy allergy), and added some cocoa. It was a fantastic chocolate smoothie that the kids were thrilled with! Thanks for the idea! [in reply to StephenC]

I've never been much of a smoothie connaisseur, but this actually sounds like a really nice combination. Welcome to Squidoo, you are obviously off to a great start! - Kathy

Sure you can Jewelsofawe! You can either start with a familiar fruit smoothie recipe and then add a piece of green to it, or start with a simple recipe for a green smoothie, and start with more fruit and less greens! The only kind of green leafies my children would eat when we started was Romaine lettuce, and that was only under promise of dessert or some other drastic measure. (Don't worry they did plenty of veggies, just not green leafies!) So I started with a simple recipe of one banana, one leaf of Romaine lettuce, and 2 cups of water. It wasn't bad! We actually got tired of the banana first, and tried apple, pear, and mango. Then I started adding another half leaf of lettuce, then an entire leaf, and so on. Now my standard smoothie includes about 6 leaves, and extra water!

What green leafies do you enjoy? Romaine, Green Leaf, or Red Leaf Lettuce? Find something "normal" that you don't mind the taste of, and start there!

I am not sure I can do a green smoothie. I used to make a delicious banana and strawberry smoothie.

I've never been very good at even thinking about counting calories. The closest I ever got to that was when I was studying the Bradley Method of childbirth for my second child, and I needed to keep track of how much protein I was eating every day!
I have learned to trust my body's signals for what it wants and needs, and as I have done that I find that I see food in a different way.
An example would be when I was driving home from the grocery store tonight. My daughter had waited in the car, and did not know what I had gotten, so I was excitedly telling her about this gorgeous, crisp, dark bunch of kale that I had found buried, and this fantastic bunch of crispy dandelion greens that were the loveliest color of green while we drove home!

She gave me one of those "you've lost it mom" looks, and I realized again how differently I see food now.
As for the nutritional breakdown... I have no clue, but maybe I can figure that out.... sounds like the start of another lens!

This recipe does sound like a very healthy one. What exactly is the nutritional breakdown? It sounds like it's pretty high calorie.
