Perennial Plant Combinations

Perennial Plant Pairings

A few combinations of plants to add color to your yard/garden, for a different look than what is down the street or next door, and also some suggestions for succession planting for a longer season of interest, texture, and color, and an important tip on dying bulb foliage.

Perennial Plant Combinations

Use Roses, Clematis, and Spring Bulbs to Brighten Your Surroundings

A climbing Rose and a Clematis vine (never a vigorous Clematis like a Clematis viticella unless the Rose is very vigorous)

Two or as many as four Clematis vines, that bloom simultaneously in different colors and/or that bloom at different times to extend the season of bloom.

Rose bush in front of Clematis in a harmonious color combination

Clematis and Perennial Sweet Pea (Lathyrus)

Roses and Daisies

Spring-flowering bulbs over-planted with Daylilies to hide dying bulb foliage (Don't cut off or tie up bulb foliage-that is needed to make food for next season so you can have a great bulb display in the spring!)

Blue campanula (bell flower) and silver-leaved Artemesias, such as Old Woman

Old fashioned Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis) in front of one of the very earliest Clematis

Peony in front of early Clematis-similar color, or contrasting colors

Succession planting of Daffodils, Tulips, Iris, Peonies, Oriental Poppies, and Day Lilies

About gemjane

Southeastern Indiana is where I make my home, on a small family farm. My husband and I have a grown son. I am fortunate to have a husband who is very supportive of my endeavors with my little eBay business, Gemjane's Dollhouse Miniatures.

I have had a variety of experiences so far in my life. Most of my life I have lived in Indiana, but I have also lived in Louisiana, and have taught school in both states. For three years the mid-70's I lived in Australia, in the state of Queensland, where I taught school for a year in a suburb of Brisbane. That was followed by two years in the Outback supervising the children's schoolwork, (lessons from a correspondence school & "School of the Air"), one year each at two different sheep and cattle stations. One station was 90 miles from the nearest town, and the other was 120 miles from town (!). Three of the best years of my life! I'm still in touch with a number of Aussie friends.

I have owned a one-person small greenhouse business, specializing in culinary herbs and perennial flowers; I have also worked as the perennial manager in a garden center.

My most recent venture is my eBay Store in which I sell doll house miniatures.

Little things have always intrigued me. I come from a family of 5 girls, and we all loved playing with our couple of dollhouses. We had miscellaneous bits of this and that in the way of dollhouse miniatures, mostly inexpensive hand-me-downs from friends and relatives. And what we didn't have we created. Once in a while it was a great treat to pick out a few things at the Dime Store. I spent some of the happiest hours of my childhood playing with the dollhouse miniatures. Now one of my sisters also sells dollhouse miniatures, and another is very active in a miniature club, and makes minis, including knitting and crocheting tiny things.
