The Power of Super Green Food

The Power of Super Green Food~ Perfect Food®

Nearly every major health organization recommends eating at least five to nine servings of fruits and vegetable per day to maintain health.  Yet, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, less that nine percent of American adults are able to consume this recommended number of servings (and French fries do NOT count)

Now the easiest way to ensure that you are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables is to consume a "super green food blend" every day.

Super green foods is a term usually used to describe young cereal grasses such as wheat, barley , oats and alfalfa, as well as spirulina, chlorella, kelp and other sea vegetables.

Perfect Food Products

Cereal Grasses

The cereal grasses found in Garden of Life's Perfect Food® are defined as being cultivated in the young grass stage of the wheat plant, the barley plant, the rye plant and the oat plant. At this young stage, the cereal plant contains many times more vitamins, mineral and proteins than found in the same plant once it matures to the grain stage.  Basically, the young cereal grass is much more nutrient dense than the mature cereal plant.

Cereal grasses can be delivered to the body in one of two ways, concentrated grass juice powder or fibrous whole leaf grass powder.  The process of using the grass juice is a more time consuming and more expensive alternative than simply grinding up the whole leaf powder.

Garden of Life believes that juicing their cereal grasses provides a much more nutritional benefit in their products such as Perfect Food® and Perfect Food Berry®.

Spirulina and Chlorella

Also included in the Perfect Food® blends is spirulina and chlorella. These blue-algae cousins are high in protein, carotenoids and minerals - making them an excellent super food.

Green algae have been found to have the highest sources of chlorophyll in the plant world; and, of all the green algae studied so far, chlorella is the highest, often ranging from 3% - 5% chlorophyll.

Spirulina is probably the easiest of the algae family to digest and absorb.  It has been consumed for thousands of years by Mexican (Aztecs, Mayans), African, and Asian peoples.  Spirulina is considered a complete protein because over half of it consists of amino acids, the building blocks of protein.  In addition, it is a rich source of other nutrients including B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, carotenoids, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid).

Garden of Life's Perfect Food® and Perfect Food Berry® top off these great super foods with a "Perfect Veggie Blend" of Beet, Carrot, Broccoli, Cucumber, Tomato, Kale, Spinach, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Parsley, Asparagus, Brussels Sprouts, Bell Pepper, Ginger and Onion.  Perfect Food® also contains sprouted grains, seeds, legumes and acerola cherries.  The Perfect Food Berry® includes a Whole Food Berry Antioxidant Blend of Strawberries, Cherries, Blueberries, Blackberries, and Raspberries with an ORAC value of over 2000.

In conclusion, there are over 17 organic vegetables, 10 fermented sprouted grains, 8 marine vegetable, 5 organic whole fruits and berries in the Garden of Life's Perfect Food® family!  We could never eat all these in one day, and we would have to work hard to be able to get them organic and as freshly prepared as Garden of Life® does.  So enjoy this power house of nutrition and rest assured that you will be in the nine percent of people that will get more than enough of their recommended daily allowance and enjoy a
