Pet Fish Supplies

When choosing your fish observe them for a while. Choose a lively one, one thats swimming around a lot and is colourful. You don't want to be bringing home a sick fish.

Choose an appropriate tank or bowl. It would be a good idea to purchase this before the fish so that you can fill it up with luke warm water and let it rest for a while before adding your new fish friend. Add the gravel and any plants (in our case it was elmo and cookie monster!) but before doing so ensure that you rinse them.

When the luke warm water has rested for a while don't just add your Goldfish directly into the water as this will cause too much stress to the fish. You need to add the bag with the Goldfish in to the tank and let it sit on the water for an hour or so. This will let you new pet (have you named him yet?) get acclimatized to the temperature.

Then empty the water in the bag and the Goldfish to the tank or bowl and wish him all the best in his new home.

Where you place the tank is very important. Whilst Goldfish do like the sun, they don't want to be in direct sunlight, so choose the place for the tank wisely to keep your new pet happy.

We have ours at home in a corner bookcase where there is some sun but it is also shaded from direct heat.

Clean the tank out once a week. Make it a regular job for the weekend.

- Take out half of the water from the tank and put it in a bowl or basin, add your fish.

- Then get rid of the remaining water from the tank.

- Clean the tank with warm water (don't add any detergant or anything) and rinse gravel or plants.

- Put your fish back into its new clean home!
