RoHS stands for the "restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". It is a European Directive aiming to control the use of certain hazardous substances in the production of new electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).
RoHS restricts the use of mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, cadmium and a range of flame retardants notably polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers.

Philips ECO TV features Dimmable Backlighting technology combined with:
Being able to dim the backlight in darker scenes has the dual benefit of saving power and improving black-level contrast. The backlight dimming can be control using a room lighting sensor, so in dark rooms, it will dim down and uses less power. There is also a user selectable power-saving mode which caps the peak backlight output level to save even more power. Those power-saving features can be turned on or off via the viewer control setting.
