Recycling & Re-using is the modern equivalent of good old fashioned respect for our environment; and not half as efficient!

I have been painting and making wierd and groovy art-works and craft-pieces all my life.  I can remember sketching in ultra-fine detail, a stuffed toy mouse in a dress, that I had previously sewn together from a kit bought for me for christmas at the age of 11.  I remember being chuffed about it and the Rellies were impressed, so I guess you could say that getting attention spurred me ever onward in my quest to make stuff that interests or pleases....and so I still make stuff, but am constantly limited in either resources or time....

My main focus for this lense is stuff I have created from scraps, re-used, re-cycled, found and donated (to my cause!) materials....they are usually bits that are odd, raw and very unusual....lack of resources (money) means I've been forced to use what I can find...with surprising results!!

The cause?  Well to help raise awareness that we can use what's around us...effectively cutting down on waste in a less obvious but creative way!

I will be putting more up soon so do visit often.

Also check our band!!

If there's one thing I've learnt as an artist is that you've got to have an audience; somewhere to showcase your stuff....getting feedback, hopefully positive is what feeds the well of creativity.  Stopping it from drying up is our constant challenge.

Keep an eye out for the creation of my new online gallery...TBA.

Cheers for now!!

Phoebe.

Using what is around us, almost religiously, can save us from greed!

Let what the universe brings me, be the starting point for my creations.

I like to paint and create with whatever I can get my hands on. Most recently however, I have been limited with space so have been making some re-cycled head-dresses for onstage gear. I play flute with the Global-Trance outfit Astralasia. We like to create onstage characters to enhance the visual content of our gig, and getting away from the jeans/teeshirt or obvious boring stuff. Here is a list of the materials and techniques and general stuff that I can remember using over the years;

Oil; Gouache; Pastels; Chalks; Acrylics; Resins; Papier Mache; Plastic; Cardboard boxes; Cling-film; Wire; Lids (from bottles/jars); PVA glue...love it!!; Sequins; Wool (I can spin it myself too!); Leather; Beads etc etc....

Recycled Head-dress!!

Made from scraps mainly...

Created to wear on-stage, I wrapped hair dreads made of wool; cling-film (from the crates at the supermarket); string; plastic & fabric strips...and thread through a bandanna made of pvc (or leather) taken from a worn-out pair of trousers...
now look!!

Plastic Fantastic???

What shall we do with all the old plastic in the world??

After watching 'Dumped' on the TV recently and visiting the local skip, it brings to mind the question again...'what the hell can we do with all our waste'??
I would like anyone who is engaged in creative re-use of non-biodegradable items to get in touch and share your ideas here....

Dad's Reclaimed Garden

Put your bit in the pot to keep the creative ideas flowing!!!

Recycle your ultimate commodity.....

YOURSELF!!!!!!

A friend and I had a conversation today across the messenger network, and we were musing about what we end up as, in life and where....the word end struck me as a bit final for a chap in his latter 20's? I wanted to call back glibly...'it's not the end...only a new beginning'!!! yeah glib see, but like a crisp packet thats been eaten, we still go on, even if we are empty of useful content we are still going to be around for the next 20-100 years (ish!!) so hang on...there is life in the old foil yet...but we can't resign ourselves to a land fill so early in our carreers can we??
We've got to somehow learn to recycle the very thing that matters to us most....
US!!!!!!!
It all boils down to, in my opinion, the psychology within ourselves, which we now learn is quite malleable. Like a bit of plastic, we can melt it down and make something new...new ideas can shape us if we listen to them and try them out...new approaches & outlooks can be learnt.
So next time you, like my mate, are feeling like an empty crisp packet...a bit filmy and vacant of crisps...melt yourself down in an appropriate, and safe fashion, and take yourself to a new level of existence. The first step is imagination.

Time to become a..............???

About Pheebs

Hi.

I was trained in music and art/design with various levels of qualification and education, but that is less important to me than the constant endeavour to make best use of the things that everyday folk leave behind...I don't know why, but remember your probably a womble, so keep on wombling...check out some of my wombles int the world of eco-art I've created on this lense. Also, if you like ambient & hard dance/trance music, check out our band Astralasia!!
