What are these apalling statistics?
These are FACTS!
- At least 60% of the global population fails to get the minimum recommendation of 30 minutes of exercise per day.
- Your risk of getting cardiovascular disease increased by 1.5 times when you fail to meet the minimum recommendation of 30 minutes/day.
- An estimated 2 million people die annually due to problems associated with physical inactivity.
- An estimated $75 billion is spent in the USA in medical costs associated with physical inactivity.
Isn't calling this a deadly problem a bit of an exaggeration?
2 million deaths a year due to physical inactivity, so ABSOLUTELY NOT...This is a BIG DEAL!
Physical inactivity is estimated to cause about 10-16% cases EACH of breast cancer, colon cancer, and diabetes. It is estimated to cause 22% of ischemic heart disease.Chronic disease is a significant contributor to the global burden of chronic disease. Although, the lack of physical inactivity alone does not ALWAYS cause disease, it IS a key player!
You can greatly reduce your risk for heart disease, stroke, breast, and colon cancers simply by increasing physical activity.
So, what is the minimum exercise I can get to prevent these diseases?
First, you need to work on mindset!
Mindset is crucial in this area especially if you have been somewhat negative towards exercise in the past. It's not about EXERCISE. It's about taking responsibility for YOUR HEALTH.Are you willing to do that?
Are you willing to say, I'll do whatever I need to be a healthier me?
Are you willing to take one step a day toward better health?
Are you willing to get on board with PREVENTION?
The general consensus is that we get at least 30 minutes of 'moderate' intensity activity DAILY. This can easily be obtained with fun activities that fit into our day...Keep Reading!
How do I fit this into my day?
Opportunities for increased physical inactivity are all around you...
- Walk your kids to school
- Walk to the grocery store when you just need a couple things
- Are you close enough to ride your bike to work?
- Don't pay somebody to walk the dog?
- Use a push mower instead of a rider
- Dance with your kids
- Get involved in recreational sports like volleyball and softball
- Park further away when looking for a parking spot
- Take the stairs whenever possible
- Do you have an idea to share?
Can I just be honest with you?
It's hard to fit something new into our day. We live in a 'hurry up' nation where we run from one thing to the next with little opportunity for breaks, but this is CRUCIAL.You need to make the choice to make 30 minutes of physical activity a priority in your life even after trying the things listed above. It could be a brisk walk, a bike ride, jumping rope, cross-country skiing, or a short exercise tape. Whatever you choose, MAKE IT A PRIORITY!
This is something we need to do for our health, for our wellness, to PREVENT the early onset of chronic diseases which leave us living a miserable life and unable to really enjoy our GOLDEN year.
Tell me again what the benefits of physical activity are...
Not only does physical inactivity greatly reduce your risk factors for disease, but it generally promotes good health!
- Lower blood pressure
- Smokers who exercise are more likely to cut back, or quit all together
- Less likely to develop diabetes
- Less likely to develop obesity or have excess body fat
- Increased levels of HDL (good) cholesterol which reduces risk for
heart disease - Builds healthy bones, muscles, and joints
- Reduces risks for colon cancer
- Psychological benefits: decreased depression/anxiety and promotes improved mood
- Lower risk for stroke
Putting the "GOLDEN" back into Golden Years
In addition to getting good regular physical activity and eating right, supplements are also an option...
You're health is a result of interactions between your genes and lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise stress, smoking, and alcohol. Lifestyle factors are the risk factors that you can IMMEDIATELY change to decrease your risk for chronic disease and promote healthy aging.Your genetic make-up determines which nutrients are used in your body; the way toxins are removed, what happens to any waste products and how efficient effective these key processes are working within your body.
By adjusting your lifestyle and utilizing a customized nutritional dietary supplement, you can have a positive impact on how your genes work and compensate for areas in which your genes are not functioning at an optimal level.
This can promote health aging and help put the "GOLDEN" back into the golden years.

- Great lens. I've found that by doing gentle warmups and stretches in the morning, I avoid strained muscles and stiff joints later in the day. It's especially important when my grandson is coming to visit because I don't pick him up everyday. It's a daily necessity. None of us want to rust out!

- GREAT LENS! And this all starts with the smallest of children who are allowed to sit and watch TV most of the day or play on the little play stations all day. Get them outside for a walk, or run in the back yard. Great information! Five Stars for this great lens!
