Wonderful lens, I spent or misspent a great deal of my morning here, watching the videos and looking at the merchandise. It blows my mind that Einstein's birthday is the same as pi day. I am going to send this to my ex-husband: a mechanical engineering professor. That man needs a good laugh. Angel Blessed.

"Pi" is useful in engenering calculations, astrology, is also a symbol, a logo sometime, or represent our respect for old science..

    Inherently a very nice guy,
    he must be, this enigmatic Pi;
Never get to know him fully,
    even if you earnestly try.
Simple enough for a child to use,
    Yet could pick Einstein's brain.
Moves about with ease, does he,
    Sporting his endless digit-train.

Whoops! Just realize I was getting Pi mixed up with the Golden Section (Mean). I now realize there is a difference (For one, the number is slightly different) but there's a relationship too. I'm off to research it! By the way, this is an awesome lens!
  • Aquavel Feb 8, 2012 @ 2:19 am | delete
Didn't know there was a Pi day. I'm going to celebrate this year by rewatching the first episode of the new cable TV show "Touch." (The next episode isn't until March 19th). Also I'm going to learn 8 digits of Pi, be appreciative of the nautilus shell on my bathroom counter, and maybe make some new fractal art. And perhaps I'll have pie for breakfast.
  • jimmyworldstar Feb 4, 2012 @ 11:57 pm | delete
I'd celebrate by eating a pie or a pizza pie. I'm not too big on math but it's interesting in the realm of mathematics.

Pi is an interesting number. Take each digit in turn and it seemingly gives you a sequence of random digits between 0 and 9. The sequence does indeed pass all the tests for a random number generator. Nobody has yet proved that the sequence is recurring or that any digit between 0 and 9 is more likely to occur than any other..

I love "e". But since there is no e-day, your lens is the nearest to celebrate something mathematical. Great lens. 5*'s.

PS: I came across this equation quite some time ago, but I still haven't been able to digest it. How can two irrational number, an imaginary number and the number 1 cancel each other perfectly?

    1 e**(i*pi) = 0

PPS: In case you enjoy mathematics, you might want to check out Are you afraid of mathematics?

There's no way I could have pulled this off! You are so creative, I love it. I never would have thought there could be so many ways to discuss (and celebrate) a little mathematical symbol. Very cool.

Following on, I wonder if any mathematician types out there have experimented with working out pi in bases other than 10? Surely there must be a base that would give pi as a whole number?

Sir, I send a rhyme excelling
In sacred truth and rigid spelling
    Numerical sprites elucidate
For me the lexicon's full weight

Count the letters in the words for pi to 20 decimal places easily remembered.

You crack me up!! This is a an awesome example of what a lens can and should be. Love it!! Sent it to my mom, since she's a math teacher. Had one of those cherry pi t-shirts even.

of Pi with us. A kindness that will be membered
through all time, May Obie wan Bless you and
keep you with the force. Today it is not the kind
of pie to eat, you must just have 3.14 of them.

Nice original lens. I never heard of Pi Day before. Great idea. My favorite is Star Wars Day - can you guess when this is?
