A tip, which will help you, read sheet music & to memorize the treble clef: The Lines can be remembered by the phrase Every Good Boy Does Fine (EGBDF) and the spaces by the word FACE.

The Bass clef or the F clef is used for many low-pitched instruments like bass guitar, tuba and timpani along with the horn for which it used for only the lower notes. They can be memorised with the help of the following phrase Good Boys Do Fine Always and the spaces by All Cows Eats Grass.

After identifying the clef, the next step to read sheet music is to determine the key signature, which is located on the right side of the clef. Depending on its type, the notes are marked as flat, sharp, or natural.

Time signature is generally on the right side of the key signature. It appears to us as a fraction. It is also known as the meter signature. The upper number denotes the number of beats in a measure. The bottom number denotes the note, which gets a beat. The 4 / 4 is the most common signature and is assigned the letter C. Other standard time signatures are 2/2 (cut time), 2 / 4 time, 3 / 4 time and 6 / 8 time.

Notes are the most valuable part. A note denotes the basic structure of a pitch. You need to know many things about a note before you can read or sing it.

Now you know the most of the basics, which lines and spaces correspond to what, you will be able to read sheet music from left to right. The symbols denote either the notes or rests. Rests mean silence.

Patience and concentration is required to learn how to read sheet music. It is not such an easy job. Dedicated study and relentless practice will finally lead you to read sheet music easily and correctly.
