    Hi, this is a great post. I have tried all the pings service above but i found the "Add your URL to Google" is kind of broken as it says the page you are trying to reach does not exist (404).

    Hey There I found your lens very informative I'm very new to squidoo and I'm only on my 4th lenses because I put alot of effort into each one. I barely get any views and that is how I came upon your lens to ping my blog hopefully to gain more traffic. Well I can't wait to try out pingler and maybe I will gain some success because you inspire me with this great lens.

    Hi, Great lens! Does ping.fm also ping to directories? because i can add/setup some sites with ping.fm so that they also put a link, and it allows you to add a little comment. Not realy the normal pinging. I saw a tool that increase the views of an article on ezines, by pinging and using different proxies. So, will the views of a normal page increase too, with the normal pinging and is pinging also like a visitor? Because if the pingservices are, then they probably stay a milli second so the visitors stick time on the site will decrease highly in google analytics.... thanks for answering if you want.

    Hello. Quick question. I want to ping my bookmarks but what url do I use to put in the ping box? Is there a certain one that I use after I like or bookmark a website or do I. Just paste my url of my bookmark site in the ping box even if I have several bookmarks saved?

    Hi,

    It's usually not necessary to ping your bookmarks. You ping only if you need your content crawled and indexed. Bookmarking, social media and other high content sites are usually crawled often, so there is no need to ping.

    Also, pinging a bookmarking profile too often can be considered spamming and can eventually cause you problems. You may want to read my lens on bookmarking. It has some excellent tips on how to get the most from it.

    Hello Mathias, when you make a big change to your site, like adding a lot of new content, a new page, change the order of your pages or the links between your pages then you should ping your site or the page you made the change to. This way the search engines and other directories know that there is new stuff that they need to crawl and index. When they think your site is updated they are more likely to send you more traffic. Make sure you don't do this unless you make a big change otherwise they think of it like spamming. I hope this helps.

    Thanks for a great Lens!!! I use Pingler.com but they restrict you to only 5 pings per day and when I am doing my marketing and posting press releases I always ping the URL to the press release and this limit of 5 per day is a problem. Now that I have a couple more pinging sites to research I may have a solution now. A+ on all the info you provided.

    Have you tried using Feed Shark? They offer an unlimited number of pings.

    If I am pinging through Pingler, should I set my Feedburner settings to ping as well? Also, should I still submit my new article links to Google, Bing, and Yahoo on top of pinging them through Pingler?

    Thanks for your advice. This stuff can get kind of overwhelming at times. BTW, great and informative lens!

    If you ping your site or articles, you also want to ping your Feedburner settings to ping. Feedburner will ping your feed and not your site or articles. You do not need to submit directly to the search engines and ping them. If you still don't see them indexed after a few days, then I would submit them directly to the search engines.

    I use the Squid Utils Add-On so that makes it easy to ping a lens. Sure glad to have it.

    It depends on what you are pinging. If you are pinging a Squidoo lens, then the ping tool on Squidutils provided by thefluffanutta is good to use. This is the first one on my list. Feedshark is good for podcasts and feeds. I don't have any favorites for websites or blogs.

    I'm not saying that these particular pinging tools that I am recommending are best, these are just the ones that I prefer. I have not done any research as to which would provide the best results.

    Ben, you have a great question. You only need to ping the page with the major update. If you have overhauled the whole site, then you can ping just the homepage.

    Dude.. these are all the same more or less, you only need one service to ping other wise you will do more harm to your blog as you will be spamming!

    I use the integrated wordpress ping for my blog http://www.vectorash.com and each time I publish a post, all the most services are already pinged! If you use wordpress this might be already done to use, so pinging again.. is not a good idea ;)

    If you use Pingler, do not also use Ping-o-matic. They ping the same sites and could get your site slapped. Pinging is a great way to get the search engines to find your new lenses.

    I use Pingler. That one is really good because all of the sites actually ping instead of half or a third drop off.

    You have a great list of Ping sites. My question is ... do we know how much overlap exists between those sites? I am asking because if we ping same site too many time we will get the opposite effect, which goes so far as erase a Google rank...

    How many Ping services do you recommend using? I already use the Ping Tool in SquidUtils....should I use more? Would love to know, and thanks for the great links and tips in this lens!

    Just one will usually work just fine. SquidUtils is the best one for lenses, however some of the other services will allow you to ping your feed or some are best for blogs.

    You can use as many as you like, but you don't want to use multiple ping services that all ping the same places for you. That annoys the directories they are pinging.

    You can add as many services as you like, and ping literally hundreds of URLs at once.

    Don't forget http://www.PingNinja.com - it lets you copy + paste in your own list of xmp-rpc ping servers to use (that way there's no overlap).

    Wow, I had no idea there were so many ways to ping a lens. I wonder if there is any sort of backlash penalty if a person used all of the ping services ... over-pinging perhaps. I hope not.

    I am very new squidoo and to submitting any material online for that matter. I had a question though. Is it spam to use multiple pinging venues when you are pinging an updated page. Like if I update a lens, should I use all of the ping sites, or just a few, or just one? I noticed that they ping to different areas, or maybe I'm mistaken, but if so then I would want my lens in as many areas of the web as possible right? Awesome lens though! you get a thumbs up and definitly favorited because I will be here often! lol

    As long as the ping sites/services don't ping the same places, you should be ok. However, you really don't need to use all of them. I find just one or two works just fine to show my stuff updated to the search engines. The first one on the list is the best for lenses.

    If you are pinging a lens, I highly recommend SquidUtils. (It's the first one listed.) My favorite ping service for blogs and websites is Ping-o-Matic. Then for pinging a feed I like Feed Shark. It all just depends on what you are pinging.

    I am not aware of a ping service that lets you ping a whole list of urls at one time. That may be because you should only ping after making major updates to the site. If you ping without following that guideline, you could be considered spamming and your pings could be ignored.

    Thanks for the heads up. I checked it out and it will not work for some reason if you use the RSS field provided. It does work just fine if you only use the Name and URL fields only. I put a note with the link above so others will know. If you come across anything else, please let me know.

    The only trouble with pingler is that when you use it you tend to end up with spyware and all sorts of other garbage on your computer. Cleary whatever servers that are been pinged some are bouncing back some sort of garbage and the get through firewalls. Id suggest using a proxy server to do this.

    Thanks for the headsup about these services - useful.

    Oh and we have all made mistakes - including me (marketing wise). My no1 suggestion to everyone FORGET GOOGLE ADWORDS. As far as I am concerned its set up so that Google makes money out of you - no wonder they make so much money. Stick to organic trafficing etc etc instead!!!
