Pickleball Mania
If you have not yet heard of Pickleball , it is about time that you do. This paddle game has interested a lot of people for more than 20 years now, and is played very much like badminton and tennis. In fact, some people refer to pickleball as mini tennis. Even the pickleball court is designed to look like a badminton or a tennis court. What makes pickleball different from badminton or tennis is that instead of using a racket, you use a wooden paddle to toss the ball back and forth with.
Three people founded this very exciting sport --- Joel Pritchard, a U.S. Congressman, William Bill and Barney McCallum --- as a form of family entertainment. Indeed, this particular sport can be played by any member of the family. Dads, Moms, and even the little kids will enjoy playing pickleball. It has not been made clear, though, why the founders named it as such. Some believed that the family dog, named Pickles, served as the inspiration for the sport's name. Accordingly, Pickles loved to chase balls around and then hide them in the bush.
The first game of pickleball was played on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle. Pickleball initially was just a family sport, often played in people's backyards, driveways or streets. It was wholesome and entertaining, a perfect way to spend Sunday afternoons. However, beginning in the 1970s, it started to pique the interest of a lot of people, and soon enough pickleball was professionalized with official rules and guidelines. From being merely a family sport, Pickleball developed into a professional sport.
Pickleball is now played on a paddle court measuring 20 feet wide and 44 feet long. Just like a badminton court, there is a net separating the two sides of the court. As a rule, the net should be 34 inches high in the middle, and 36 inches on the edges.
Noted pickleball players are Mark Friendenberg, Billy Jacobson, Enrique Ruiz, Steve Wong, Faye Lock, June Crabb, Kath Swafford, Shiela Schoonover, and Mitsu Clark, among others.
Pickleball is a hit among the senior citizens. However, anybody can play the game and enjoy it as well. It is practically played anywhere. Some schools and universities, recreational facilities, camps and retirement centers already have paddle courts. If you want to try the sport yourself, remember that having the appropriate paddle can spell a big difference in your game.
There are certainly lots of paddles available, but as much as possible, choose one with a thick and padded grip. This is the choice of many professional players because this gives them a lot of comfort. Generally, paddles weigh around 7-8 ounces only. So, when choosing for your paddle, do not go for anything heavier than 8 ounces as it can put some pressure on your wrist. It may also be wise to choose a paddle with larger hitting surface.
Pickleball is a game meant to be enjoyed by all --- and so far, it has provided families with a unique kind of entertainment.

The pickleball player serves underhand while keeping one foot behind the back line. The serve must go diagonally across court, and pass over the no volley zone. Only one serve attempt is permitted, unless the ball hits the net and goes into the correct court....read further more Click this link now: Pickleball
