Point Loma Light house is one of the major attractions here. It is thronged by visitors through out the year. The Point Loma Lighthouse was built on top of Point Loma at the mouth of San Diego Bay. It is nestled in the Cabrillo National Monument. Construction of the lighthouse began in the early 1854 and was completed in 1855. The light of the light house was first lit on November 15, 1855. However, the flame was permanently extinguished on March 23, 1891, due to fogs that rendered the lighthouse useless. A new Point Loma Light was built again in 1891. In 1984, the light was re-lit by the National Park Service in celebration of the light house 130th birthday.
