Polly Pocket Vintage Toys To Collect

Ranked #6,397 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #80,193 overall

Polly Pocket is 26 Years Old

26 Years ago in 1983 Chris Wigg designed the 1st Polly Pocket set for his daughter Kate. The idea behind the sets being that it was a small world that Kate could carry around in her pocket!

Hence Polly Pocket was born. The first sets were produced by Bluebird Toys. Bluebird was then taken over by Mattel. In 1998 Mattel made the first changes to Polly by making her slightly larger and more realistic looking. 1999 marked the launch of the new range of fashion Polly Pocket.

Sadly it is only Fashion Polly Pockets that are now being produced. The original sets ceased production in 1997 with the updated range finishing in 2003.

My fascination is with the original sets that are filled with a magical charm that keep little girls (and little boys) amused for hours.

5 ways to start your collection of Polly Pockets

Polly Pocket Toys Could Be The Antiques Of The Future!

Ever since my daughter was tiny I have had a fascination for the miniature world of Polly Pocket. This fascination has continued and now that the smaller vintage variety have ceased to be produced they have become highly collectable with some of the rarer sets changing hands for considerable amounts of money.

Our own collection of Pollys seems to be ever growing as we track down Polly Pocket sets we have just discovered.

My daughter and I spend hours looking at websites and visiting bootsales etc to try and find those Pollys that prove so elusive.

Below are 5 ways of tracking down Polly Pocket Sets.

1. Search the family attic

Search the family attic - ask around the chances are that somebody in the family bought their daughter, niece or grandaughter a Polly Pocket set at sometime and it is now stored away in the loft. This can be a great starting point as firstly it is free and secondly the memories come flooding back when you open up these sets that it spurs you on to add to the collection.

2. School Fetes

School fetes - These are ideal places to track down a bargain as often parents have found these little Pollys and think they make ideal items for the school bring and buy.

we have been lucky not only to have found whole sets but often the odd Polly figure or two that we can use to complete the sets we already have.

3. Boot Sales

Boot sales - We have found these to be most successful as you may often find a person who is selling their whole collection and you can purchase well looked after Polly Pocket Sets.

This is also the place wher you can quite often find a bargain as many sellers are only to happy to sell their toys at discount prices. it is also a chance to develop your bargaining skills!

4. Ebay

This is one of the best places to find specific Polly Pockets sets or individual Polly Pocket dolls to add to your collection.

There are also opportunities to buy job lots that will really kick your collection off with style!

I accidentaly came across the vintage style polly when looking for pollys for my daughters on Ebay, as a child I did long for the originals but never had any, now as an adult I have fallen head over heels in love and regressed back to my childhood. My daughters adore the old style much more than the fashion polly's. I am currently trying to re-make up some sets I have aquired, so need to do some homework as to which goes with what, so any help/guidance would be greatly appriciated.
