Winnie the Pooh Themed Parties

For my daughter's 1st birthday we chose to have a Winnie the Pooh themed party. It was the theme of her nursery and one of my favorite animated characters.

This was 9 years ago now, so available party supplies will be different than what I had to chose from, but this theme is a classic and will never go out of style. It's one of the few characters that works just as well for little boys as it does for little girls.

It's also not limited to birthday parties. Baby showers are also often decorated with Winnie the Pooh too. :)

The first thing that I buy, weeks and weeks before the party, are the Invitations & Thank You notes. I hold off on the party supplies until I have a better idea of how many people will be coming. I buy them together 'cause I like them to match. If you keep them in their sealed package you can always return any extra packs you have.

It's hard to get folks to actually RSVP these days. I include a phone number & email address so they can choose which is easiest for them. They are more likely to get back to you that way.

A few weeks before the party it's time to pick out all of the party supplies. Have your menu in mind so you know which items you will need and which you really don't. Having a head count helps too. Again, keep all of your receipts till after the party so you can return unused packages.

Supplies to think about: dinner plates, desert plates, bowls, cups, luncheon napkins, beverage napkins, table cloths, forks, spoons, knives, goodie bags, balloons, banners, streamers and, if you'd like one, a piñata. Add to that list any items for the cake including candles, cake toppers, and a specialty cake pan if you'll be needing one.

To save on cost you can buy non-themed items for the adults who will be at the party. Pick a few colors to match the theme and head over to the generic section of the party store in person or online.

Mix 'n match different color latex balloons and a couple mylar theme balloons. You can tie them up in multi-colored bunches around the party location and save one of the special balloons for the chair of the guest of honor.

Other decorations you may consider are banners, hanging decorations, streamers and centerpieces.
