Cool, Sexy, Beautiful, Unique
Tattoos have become more and more popular, especially in North and South America, Japan, and Europe. Tattoos have many meanings; from religious to cosmetic, tattoos have been known to be used for identification and spiritual use.

The "Angel" & "Wings" Tattoos

I'm combining these two tattoos, as they are equally as popular and usually come in the same form and symbolism. The Angel tattoo is represented in the form of a dedication to a loved one or one's spirituality. The Wing tattoo is wing design and is often infused with inspirational or spiritual significance.

: A representation of wings symbolizes flight.

A tattoo is a marking made by inserting indelible ink into the layers of skin to change the pigment for decorative or other reasons. Tattoos on humans are a type of decorative body modification, while tattoos on animals are most commonly used for identification or branding.
Tattooing has been practiced worldwide. The Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, traditionally wore facial tattoos. Today one can find Berbers of Tamazgha (North Africa), Maori of New Zealand, and Atayal of Taiwan with facial tattoos. Tattooing was widespread among Polynesian peoples and among certain tribal groups in the Taiwan, Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai Islands, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, New Zealand and Micronesia. Despite some taboos surrounding tattooing, the art continues to be popular in many parts of the world.

- Beautiful lens and the photos are gorgeous! I have a 13-year-old butterfly tattoo on my left inner ankle myself and I'm glad to find the meaning for it here (I was going through a transitional period and assumed it meant metamorphosis which is why I chose it back then). I don't think I'll ever get another tat though I never regretted getting one done. (:

- Great pictures and very interesting to read all the meanings. The images really show how people can interpret the same symbol so very differently. That's the beauty of tattoos.
