When the weather outside starts to grow hotter and more muggy, people naturally seek the cool comfort of air conditioners. These units can come in a variety of sizes, cooling capacities and prices, but the most common type is the window air conditioner. These units are economical and an easy way to cool a small room in your building our house. Window units are made small enough to fit in any standard window size and the window itself closes down on top of the actual unit. Another top-rated model to consider is the Amcor ALTL which comes with a 12 hour timer, a built in water tank, 2 fan speeds and a remote control. Keep in mind, though, not to confuse these units with an "air cooler" which is not the same thing. Air coolers typically use evaporation of water in order to cool the air.

Many of the brands you know, such as Trane and Goodman, do carry the smaller air conditioners and many of them can be found at stores such as Lowes and the Home Depot. Before you head out to purchase these units, though, it is in your best interest to do a little research and make sure that you're getting the right one for your needs. A key to remember is that the higher the BTU rating, the bigger the room the portable unit can cool. You don't want to get a one that's too small for the room you need to use it in.
