Positive Actions in Aspergers Children

We hear so many negative things about Aspergers Syndrome and so much about what can't be helped. Maybe we need to take another look and see what kind of positive traits are found. I believe there would be a lot of traits in the aspergers personality that we could afford to impliment into our own lives. So here goes.... Lets give this a try.

Definition of Aspergers

We Who Don't Have the Benefits of Aspergers

You know-I was thinking,if we- who call ourselves "normal"-would learn a few things from those who call themselves "aspergers" we might not get so stressed with what goes on around us! And wouldn't we have avoided a lot of pain if we hadn't been so concerned about what other people thought of us! If we would be more forgiving and less judgemental we would avoid hurting the feeling of those that mean so much to us. And if we would avoid hurting other people feeling we would be much better friends. Why do we try to put everyone in a mold and make a call as to who gets called "normal" and who needs a different title? If we would stop trying so hard to put a title on every quirk a person has and be more excepting of all personalities we'd all be better off.

They Call Me "Aspergers"

People call me Aspergers, I really don't know why,
Just because I think different shouldn't make you cry.
I still enjoy life, even though I see things different,
And when you tell me what to do I try to be obedient.

I love to learn new things and life is so amazing,
Each day is another start, who knows what it may bring.
Maybe a brighter sun or maybe a real strong wind,
Or maybe someone who's down and I can be their friend.

I have a nack for storing details, in this brain of mine,
Depend on me to have the answer, when you forget your line.
And if you need historical facts, to pass that test of yours,
Just ask me,I have the answer, how else would I get good scores?

Saturday chores are no problem, I'll get up and get right to 'em,
You know me, I like the schedule, without it I'd die of bordem.
So tell me again, why do you cry when someone says "Aspergers"
I have so many positive traits, that I can use for others.

A Good Successful Life

I believe, as parents (and this could be for any child but especially aspergers) if we really take the time to understand our childs deepest interest and provide everything possible for success in that area of interest the aspergers child can go far in life! They will throw their whole being into that one area and go far with it!

I am so thrilled to read this lens! I could not agree more with you. It is so difficult to find parents who accept their kids differences and yet amazing abilities. We cannot focus on disabilities, when they have so many wonderful traits! Thanks for writing this and helping our kiddos be understood and appreciated.

I have taught several children with Asperger's Syndrome in my middle school history classes and have learned that these children do have some special gifts as well as the problems that everyone knows about. One of my students that I had last year really made me aware of that. His memory for detail was wonderful and I could always count on him to get me back on track if we veered off too far in class. His need for routine was actually a plus for me in helping me stay on track. Other students were very accepting of him in class and with a little help he was able to be a good group member when that was part of class activities. He was always positive and ready to do whatever I asked (a lesson from which other students could benefit sometimes)! This child was a pleasure to teach and I fully expect that he will, with some help along the way, find his niche in life as an adult.

We recently diagnosed our oldest (15) with Asperger syndrome. I honestly think the reason it took so long is because she has always homeschooled and her behavior has never been a problem! :-D Her Asperger has enabled her to become a highly skilled artist well on the way to achieving her goal of becoming an artist, illustrator, and author.

Everyone is unique and has his own giftings. This lens reinforces that. Thanks!
