Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an emotional illness that develops as a result of a terribly frightening, life-threatening, or otherwise highly unsafe experience. PTSD sufferers re-experience the traumatic event or events in some way, tend to avoid places, people, or other things that remind them of the event (avoidance), and are exquisitely sensitive to normal life experiences (hyperarousal). Although this condition has likely existed since human beings have endured trauma, PTSD has only been recognized as a formal diagnosis since 1980

Traumatic events that can lead to PTSD include:

* Medical emergencies

* Sexual or physical abuse

* Extreme trauma

* Seeing violence

* Watching someone die

* Losing a loved one

* Near death experience

* Natural disaster

* Car or plane crash

* Terrorist attack

* Rape

* Kidnapping

* Violent assault

* War

* Drowning

* Trapped with no way out

* Held hostage

* plus many more more

Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

PTSD may develop in many different ways from person to person and how it effects each person varies extremely there is no base line for how the individual will be effected but there are some things to look out for after the victim of a trauma come home. I you or someone you know has lived through a traumatic incident, some of the symptoms may appear within hours or days of the event, or they may take weeks, months, or even years to develop and may be hard to spot that the trauma is the cause of the the effects you are having to deal with today. Symptoms can arise suddenly, gradually, or come and go over time.

There are three main types of PTSD symptoms: re-experiencing the traumatic event, avoiding reminders of the trauma, and symptoms of hyper arousal or heightened anxiety lack of confidence not wanting be be around anyone . In the days or months following a traumatic event, you may find yourself alternating between re-experiencing the event to the smallest detail from the smells sounds tastes of the traumatic event you suffered through and in some people they go inward and start avoiding reminders of the events that accrued , with symptoms of increased arousal as the common backdrop in either a positive way or negative way total extremes from really happy one minute then completely anti social within minutes mood swings without reason are very common.

he most disruptive symptoms of PTSD involve the flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive memories of the traumatic event.

If you have PTSD, you may re-experience the traumatic event or intrusion in several ways:

* Reliving the event over and over in your head trying to figure out what you could of done to change the outcome of what you witnessed

* blaming yourself and your actions

* Intrusive memories of the traumatic event

* Bad dreams about the traumatic event

* Flashbacks or a sense of reliving the event

* Feelings of intense distress when reminded of the trauma

* Physiological stress response to reminders of the event (pounding heart, rapid breathing, nausea, muscle tension, sweating)

One of the worst things is anything can trigger a relaps at any point in time doesnt matter where you are or who you are with the world just suddenly come down around you

Examples of PTSD Triggers

* A smell ,a taste ,a sound

* For an auto accident survivor: The smell of gasoline

* For a combat veteran: The sound of a helicopter or firecrackers

* For a rape victim: The sight of a person suddenly appearing around the corner

* For a carjacking victim: The song that was playing on the radio at the time of the assault
