Potty Training A Yorkie Poo

if you have a new "baby" called a Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier or Teacup
Yorkie as a new addition to your family and household, your next step
is to figure out potty training a yorkie poo! click here for more tips.

If you've ever owned a Yorkie poo, or Yorkie pup, you know that
they are smart and can outsmart if you are not careful. Therefore,
potty training your Yorkie Poo will be fun and challenging!

My favorite Yorkie was named Muffin.....and I'll tell you more
about Muffin in a minute...

Potty training is very important for your Yorkie Poo and for you,
but you must keep in mind that YorkshireTerriers have a very strong will.

Experts say that the breed of Yorkshire Terriers could simply
be on the Top Five List of "Hard to Housebreak" breeds that exists.

This is due to their small size, enabling them to poop or
pee under the furniture or at a remote corner, and before
the owner realizes what has happened, he/she may have
relieved at the same spot quite a few times.

This makes the housetraining process even more difficult
because they go look for the same spot by "sniffing" it
off where they went to potty before!

There are only three things can help you with
housebreaking your Yorkie
Poo and that is patience, consistency and the right guidance
and coaching on housetraining or potty training
your Yorkie Poo.

Potty Training is not:

1. Yelling At Muffin
2. Hitting or Kicking your Yorkshire Terrier
3. Punishing your dog in any way

Here's what it IS about:

1. Playing with Muffin and having fun!
2. Making your Yorkshire Terrier actually WANT to obey you!
3. Using the natural instincts ALL Yorkshire Terriers have,
to quickly and easily get Muffin trained and
acting like an angel.

You can read more about potty training your Yorkie Poo here.

The reason this is so effective is because it's
based on two most important things Muffin
craves ... YOUR LOVE and YOUR ATTENTION.

Right now, almost 100% of Muffin's behavior
(both good and bad) is a result of getting your
attention ...or trying to get your attention.

In fact, almost all "problem" behavior with
Yorkshire Terriers can be traced back to one thing:

receiving attention at the wrong time!

I'll give you an example:

First, let's agree that Muffin craves your
attention.

OK.

Have you ever had Muffin jump all over you?

You most likely looked down and said something
like "Down, Muffin ...Down!".

And then maybe you took your loving Muffin's
paws off you, placed Muffin on the ground,
and petted him.

Well, here's what's going on in your dog's
head right now ...even if you're saying "No!"
... and scolding your Muffin.

Muffin is thinking,

"WOW! EVERY TIME I jump up on Kristie,
I get attention! This is great!

...I THINK I'LL JUMP ON Kristie, MORE OFTEN!"

...And the cycle continues.

But the good news is:

1. This problem is easy to fix
2. You're not alone.

Most other Yorkshire Terrier owners make the same mistake :)

Potty Training A Yorkie Poo

They are fearless and will become your master if you're not careful...

Yorkie Poos are highly intelligent and will want to get their way,
all while cocking their dear little heads and giving you a polite
little bark! You must realize that even though they are very
small, they see themselves as a big, bad dog!

So --- understanding who they are or who they think :)
they are, is important in potty training as one small
bit of their training.

They are fearless huge dogs of great size, ready to tackle
any problem you might have or any obstacle they face.
Your Yorkie Poo can become quite "yappy" if not taught
at a young age, that YOU are in charge! You must teach
them how to potty train properly, how to sit still, how to stay
and how to watch your face for their every command.

Even a well-loved puppy can become a heartache, if you
are left with a soiled rug, or smelly carpet because this
first very important step was not taken to potty train
your yorkie poo!

Potty Training A Yorkie Poo

You have chosen a loyal breed....

Your puppy really wants to please you, but they will take charge
if you don't! You have to be firm and speak to them
in a firm voice, without screaming.

If you teach your own Yorkie Poo puppy the basics when
you get them home, you will form a bond with that puppy
that will last for many years as you have found a very
loyal breed if you have chosen a Yorkie Poo!

They can be your lifelong companion and bring you much
joy for many years to come - but first-----

You must, and I repeat must, potty train your yorkie poo!

you can housebreak your puppy or adult Yorkie so that it
only relieves itself at the place where you want it to and
never relieves itself in any other place in your house...

but you have to pick a method and sticks to it - not
just weekly, but daily and if possible, by the hour
if you stay at home with your puppy or someone
in the family does.

But- don't lose heart if you are not home, because
crate training, if used properly, does work.

You have to train yourself first! If you follow
the directions, your puppy will be trained.

If you slack off in being consistent, you will
have a harder time later trying to undo bad
potty habits by your Yorkie Poo.

There are three easy methods to quickly potty train
your Yorkie Poo.

They are described as :

the Paper Method,

Crate Training Method,

and Outdoor Method...

detailed, step-by-step and easy to understand instructions, common mistakes made by other Yorkshire Terrier owners while implementing the methods and how you should avoid them in how to potty train your yorkie poo!

You have to be aware of which of these three methods
of house-training will be suitable for Yorkshire Terrier puppies
and which methods should only be used for adult Yorkshire Terriers.

You need to find out which of these 3 methods of house-training
should be used if you mostly stay at home and which of these
methods should be used if you have to leave your house for
work every day.

There is also exists a unique way by which you can know
when your Yorkie is trying to tell you that it needs to go
and relieve itself. If you reinforce this behavior, you
have trained your baby to actually tell you!

There are also unique instructions on how to house break
your puppy or adult Yorkshire Terrier if you live in an apartment
or if you cannot take it outside for some reason.

And sometimes, you need to know immediately what
to do if a fully house-trained Yorkshire Terrier
suddenly starts relieving itself all over the house
for no apparent reason.

There is also a simple technique that you can use in order
to stop your Yorkshire Terrier from spraying in the house
and on the furniture in order to mark its territory
which is really common for male Yorkie Poos.

And another common problem that you can learn is
highly effective things that you can do if your puppy
Yorkie pees whenever it sees you or other people or
whenever you approach it or whenever you pick it up
and your puppy gets excited...

Potty Training An Adult Yorkshire Terrier:

The best way to housetrain an adult Yorkshire Terrier is to begin all over again.

Observe him very closely. Maybe even maintain a diary of where he goes and when. Whether he is pooping when you are home or only when you are outside; whether you can time yourself to be home when he feels the need to go outside.

You can try dog crates, but be careful to introduce him gradually to them.

I agree. It's all about being patient and consistent. We have 2 litter mates (boy and girl) and live in Canada where we get alot of snow. We took the time over this winter to retrain them outside in one place. This meant dressing up on freezing mornings and leading them to the right place. They got a treat right away for doing the right thing. Now they run out on their own and run to the house for a treat because they know they did the right thing. My husband was the saint driving this retaining. It worked.

Don't look on potty training puppies as the unpleasant or messy side of owning a puppy. Rather see it as the first stage of a bonding process. One that will result in a happy and healthy relationship. That is the real reward of house training a dog.
