GigaGolf 's Power Max TRX Ti Driver vs. TaylorMade® r7 CGB Max Driver)
Our Golf Club Review of the Power Max TRX Ti Driver by GigaGolf
as compared to the TaylorMade r7 CGB Max Driver
(as alternative to the TaylorMade r7 CGB Max Driver)

Manufacturer: Giga Golf
Model: Power Max TRX Ti Driver
Similar to: TaylorMade® r7 CGB Max Driver
Manufacturer's Description Details: Keep the ball in the fairway by adjusting the clubheads weight profile to fit your swing. Several leading golf publications as well as our own studies have proven movable weight can help you control your tee shots. A Power Max thin face maximizes ball velocity. The best configuration for most golfers is an UST HDX 70 high density composite graphite shaft and a VX grip. Free headcover included in price.
Our Review:
The Power Max TRX Ti Driver by GigaGolf is similar to the TaylorMade r7 CGB MAX Driver (released in October 2007) and shares two distinctive features: the triangular shaped clubhead and the three portals for movable weights.
The unique triangle shape allows for the center of gravity to be positioned farther away from the clubface. This helps to launch the ball higher and increases the forgiveness of the club on off-center hits.
The three weight ports and the individual discretionary screws (6 grams, 2 grams and 2 grams) allow you to balance the club head by configuring the weights for an optimal ball flight according to your swing needs.
In case you need more fine tuning additional weights of 4 grams and 8 grams are available to further customize your ball flight. The Power Max TRX Ti Driver is USGA conforming, just keep in mind that according to USGA rule 4-2a you are not allowed to change the playing characteristics of your golf club during a stipulated round. This means no messing with the screws during a round of golf, but before or after is ok. You should do your testing and adjustments on the driving range anyways.
Our test club was the 10.5 degree model and came with the standard UST HDX 70 high density composite graphite shaft, a VX grip and a standard head cover. The standard shaft complements the club head well and is a good choice for the average golfer. A low handicapper can consider going with one of the premium shafts that are available as upgrades. The club is well put together, the same high quality we have seen in other GigaGolf products.

It takes a moment to get used to the triangular shape when addressing the ball, it looks clearly different from the usual 'bubble' shape we were used to on other oversized drivers. Nevertheless, it still looks impressive and confidence building, and most of our testers preferred the shiny black color over the red paint on the TaylorMade r7 CGB MAX Driver, but those are certainly personal choices. Anecdotally, the triangular shape makes the head cover a very tight fit and you really got to pull hard to get it off.
The Power Max TRX Ti Driver launches the ball with ease into a high trajectory, and the 10.5 degree loft model we tested is very suitable for the average golfer. Beginners and seniors with a slower swing speed however should consider the 12 degree loft model as it will make it even easier to get the ball launched.
The club comes with a neutral face angle, and the flight characteristics can easily be adjusted as shown above. In particular the draw bias (6 gram weight in the heel, 2 grams each in center and toe) was well appreciated by some players who tend to fade or slice the ball. It is not a slice cure (and it is not meant to be), but it clearly helps to get more balls into the fairway rather than into the woods. You will need a 4mm Allen wrench to change the screws.

The distance off the club is excellent, one of the longest drivers we ever tested. The club is still very long and reasonably straight on off-center hits, something golfers with a high handicap will appreciate a lot. The club face is 58mm by 84mm at its widest points, this gives plenty of club face to hit.
To sum it up, this is a premium driver from GigaGolf that is highly suitable and recommended for golfers of all abilities. It is a very long and forgiving club, and the interchangeable weights make this club very versatile for players with different individual swing patterns. The Power Max TRX Ti Driver costs US$109.59 in standard configuration - inclusive of custom fitting and free shipping (within the continental US) - which is a great deal compared to the TaylorMade r7 CGB MAX Driver at US$499 'off the rack'.
Likes: Great performance; customizable to your swing.
Dislikes: Blue head cover doesn't match the club and is too tight.
