Here is a riddle for you: How is a diabetic like a car?

Give Up?

Your car has an early detection system and so does your body.

Have you ever had the "Check Engine" warning light come on in your car? Most newer cars have a system that monitors the performance of your car. If something is not working properly, the "Check Engine" light usually comes on.

The good news is that this "pre-warning" system can help you avoid costly damage, which may be occurring with your vehicle, by detecting small problems before they become big problems. However, the only way to be certain is to have your car inspected by an expert mechanic when the "Check Engine" light comes on.

Did you know that your body has a "pre-warning" system?

The pre-warning system in your blood is like the pre-warning system in your auto!

Pre-diabetes Treatments: Importance of Blood Glucose Tests, Blood Glucose Readings and Pre-Diabetes Diet!

"Normal symptoms for diabetes may fail for Pre-diabetics!

With many diseases, your body will start producing symptoms such as aches, pains, fatigue, frequent thirst, and so on. These symptoms are your body's "Check Engine" light, warning you about problems. Early Symptoms of diabetes are like a pre-warning system in your car. The first "early warning alert" is your blood. You need to have it checked several times a year.

With pre-diabetes, other pre-warning signs are very subtle. You must really, very carefully, very dutifully, "check your bodies' engine warning light!"
This is what we mean by Pre-diabetes. Today, roughly 41 million Americans have pre-diabetes which left undetected and untreated, progresses into full-blown diabetes.
The challenge with pre-diabetes is the fact that the condition doesn't like to reveal itself with very noticeable symptoms.

SOLUTION: CHECK YOUR BLOOD GLUCOSE READINGS!

Pre-diabetes definition. What is pre-diabetes?

A glimpse from Wikipedia.

It is all about the levels of sugar in the blood. A pre-diabetic has high levels but not high enough to be diagnosed as a full type 2 diabetic. When a persons blood glucose (amount of sugar in the blood) isshown above the blood  glucose normal range for a fasting individual, some level of diabetes is diagnosed.

Wikipedia article "Diabetes mellitus" States ...
"Patients with fasting glucose levels between 110 and 125 mg/dL (6.1 and 7.0 mmol/l) are considered to have impaired fasting glycemia. Patients with plasma glucose at or above 140 mg/dL or 7.8 mmol/l two hours after a 75 g oral glucose load are considered to have impaired glucose tolerance. Of these two pre-diabetic states, the latter in particular is a major risk factor for progression to full-blown diabetes mellitus as well as cardiovascular disease."

A Book Recommendation from Amazon

Pre-diabetes diet

The following book from amazon is a very down to earth, practical approach to how to manage this disorder without having to use insulin or drugs.

Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes: The Scientifically Proven System for Reversing Diabetes Without Drugs

Consider the testimonial of Sal Salyers
My wife is suffering from diabetes. She has lost most of her hearing, her sense of smell, much of her eyesight and has nerve damage that causes her feet and legs to hurt day and night. After several years of neglect and refusing to see a doctor, she consented to be tested. Her A 1 C was 12.2. She attended the recommended diabetes education classes at the local hospital. The classes were of little benefit. The counsel given was suicidal at best. I knew a good deal about diabetes from much study of Dr. John McDougall's books. I was searching for information on the PCRM website and found Dr. Bernard's book and ordered it right away. By following the plan that he teaches, she was able to bring her diabetes under control without counting carbs. That is hard to do if you are a vegetarian. After six months her A 1 C had dropped to 6.4. Her blood pressure is usually below 110/70 without medication. Her weight is normal and she does not go hungry. This book is fantastic! It contains the truth!

What are the five major warning signs of diabetes?

Warning Signs Diabetes

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket The five major warning signs of diabetes are:
1. Frequent trips to the bathroom
2. Persistent Thirst
3. Weight Loss
4. Weakness and Fatigue
5. Tingling or Numbness in Your Hands, Legs or Feet

There are other warning signs as well but these five are the most common.
The trouble with pre-diabetes is that symptoms are (if at all) only in the beginning stages of revelation.
Because there are few, if any overt symptoms, most people will not bother having screening tests performed. With pre-diabetes, noticeable symptoms like frequent thirst and urination may not occur until the disease has progressed and is already causing considerable damage to your body. Most Type 2 diabetics don't have symptoms because the onset of diabetes is so slow.
Prevention is the best pre-diabetes treatment.

The goal with identifying pre-diabetes is to prevent the onset of diabetes from ever happening.

 See your doctor.

Your physician can determine if you have pre-diabetes with two common tests. The fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) and the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Both require an overnight fast.

The good news is that you can greatly improve your odds and likely prevent diabetes with early detection and proper care.

 Don't wait 'til it hurts.

Ask your doctor about diabetes and have your blood sugar checked several times a year.

Avandia (rosiglitazone) for Diabetes, Type 2 I used Avandia 8mg once a day for 5 years and A1c went from 9 to 5.4. I had a headache in the beginning. No other problems. Then the big scare happened and my doctor took me off and I am on glipizide. I think I will go back to Avandia.
