At last, presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama have met face to face in a debate format in Oxford, Mississippi. With only seven weeks left before the election, every nuance and every remark counts. Who do you think won the presidential debate of September 26, 2008?

What Do You Think?

We finally got to see them in a real presidential debate. Finally.

We're all hanging on their every word. Who do you think did the best job in the debate? Who won?

Who won the debate?

John McCain

Jewelsofawe says:

I listened to what they each said

ebay-grandma says:

It all gets down to the experience of the people. A smooth talker with less than 2 year in DC an even less record doesn't show much experience. A debate can have any words brought forth. Look at the records.

lens4Him says:

I think when Obama jumped on the bracelet bandwagon but couldn't even remember the name of the dead soldier he was supposedly honoring by wearing it, it showed him up for the classless politician who will say and do anything to get elected that he is

stoetzels says:

On issues I go for Obama....but talking about this debate..Mccain got stronger towards the end...Honestly he won becuase of his low-ballin techniques...he was attacking Obama on every question...where as Obama seemed to be submisive and praised Mccain..."I Think Sen.Mccain is right"

So this Debate McCain...won just by his attitude.

gargle123 says:

obama looked like a bumbling idiot and was on the defensive all night, he has done nothing for our country at all, ever, he has been in the senate for less than 4 years and half of that time he has been running for president, he doesn't care about our country at all, he is anti-American and has no experience, and would have no clue what to do if our country was attacked.when he kept saying "4-8 years ago", pleaassee...mccain is NOT bush and will not do the same..he has voted against bush many timess..unless obama is expecting another attack on our country, maybe that will change things.

Barack Obama

JazzyJazz says:

well at least Barack Obama was on SNL making a fool of himself as some other person did........

prisonersdilemma says:

I was neutral before I saw the debates and realized that it was all hype - McCain has absolutely nothing. I've lost all respect for him as a potential president. Yes, he has a great legacy and a lot of experience on the senate. Yes, he fought for this country. That makes him honorable, but not necessarily a good leader.

He's not cool-headed, he relies on demagoguery and making unsubstantiated comments (the post of someone calling Obama "anti-American" on this site means someone is actually listening to McCain's rants), he attacks when there is no need to (which tells me he's getting defensive) - he's lost it. It's over.

JustAls says:

Obama has more experience than PALIN!

JustAls says:

Barack HANDS DOWN, intelligent, smart, well spoken...

jschingeck says:

I like that Obama talks about what he is going to do as president and what he is going to work on whereas McCain continues to "bash" Obama. McCain continues to discuss why Obama will not make a good president. If only he could concentrate more on why he would make a good president and argue his case instead of arguing againist Obama.

Some History of the Presidential Debate Process

During presidential elections in the United States, it has become customary for the main candidates (almost always the candidates of the two largest parties, currently the Democratic Party and the Republican Party) to engage in a debate. The topics discussed in the debate are often the most controversial issues of the time, and arguably elections have been nearly decided by these debates (e.g., Nixon vs. Kennedy).

Presidential debates are held late in the election cycle, after the political parties have nominated their candidates. The candidates meet in a large hall, often at a university, before an audience of citizens. The formats of the debates have varied, with questions sometimes posed from one or more journalist moderators and in other cases members of the audience. Between 1988 and 2000, the formats have been governed in detail by secret memoranda of understanding (MOU) between the two major candidates; an MOU for 2004 was also negotiated, but unlike the earlier agreements it was jointly released by the two candidates.

Debates are broadcast live on television and radio. The first debate for the 1960 election drew over 66 million viewers out of a population of 179 million, making it one of the most-watched broadcasts in U.S. television history. The 1980 debates drew 80 million viewers out of a 226 million. By 2000, about 46 million viewers out of a population of 280 million watched the first debate, with ten million fewer watching the subsequent debates that year. In 2004, 62.5 million people watched the first debate, while 43.6 million watched the vice-presidential debate.http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=a3IfHn62MGD8&refer=us

    What do you want?
Obama was all spending and America first and only.

McCain talked from the ideology of America - what America used to stand for - protecting people, who ever they are, wherever they live. McCain revealed compassion.

You are voting for the vice president to be president. McCain's health --- he can't survive 4 years. Look what presidents look like after holding office, he is a dead man walking. Palin will be president during his term Obama will be assasinated by some redneck and Biden (Byden) will be president. I don't like any of them.

I guess you have to choose the one you beleave you can trust to do most of what he says and just hope thats what he does? Over here we see most coverage through CNN,Sky and the BBC. So far Obama although new seems to gie the impression that he actualy cares where Mc Cain does just the oposite. But thats just my two cents worth. I cannot speak for the whole of Norway!
