If you are involved in online marketing and you are constantly trying to drive people to your site, no doubt Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is something that concerns you. There are various methods of SEO that can help you get a better ranking for your website, which include both on-page and off-page optimization. While you may already have on-page optimization in place, with keyword focused web page content and other factors that help to improve your rankings with search engines such as Google, you may be overlooking off-page optimization. Off-page optimization uses other types of optimization that do not directly come from your web pages.

One method of off-page optimization that many people do not use are press releases. A press release is a public relations oriented announcement that is used to draw attention of not only the media, but for the public as well. Press releases usually announce new companies or inform people about new developments within existing companies. In these press releases, not only can you include important information about your company, but you can also have links that direct viewers to your company webpage as well.

One way links that lead to your webpage are very important to improving your rankings with search engines such as Google. There are extensive and complicated algorithms that are used by Google to determine where you rank on a search engine, and one of the biggest factors is the amount of links that you have that lead to your webpage. By using press releases, you can use quality content that provides more links to your website to improve your ranking.

The text that is used as the link to your site is also very important to search engine ranking. This text, called anchor text, is another thing that is taken into consideration by the algorithms used to determine your rankings on Search Engines. Within your press release you can choose your anchor text, to help build up your rankings within the Search Engines.

Merely writing and submitting press releases is not enough. You must learn how to format your press releases in a way that will provide you with the optimum results. If you learn how to properly format your press releases, then your keyword rankings with various Search Engines, such as Yahoo, Google, and MSN will improve drastically. While it may sound confusing and daunting, there are great books available that can help you learn to properly format your own press releases in order to improve your rankings.

Case Study

Here is a case study for a client I've done over 15 Press Releases for during the last 6 month. In this case my client, Laing Thermotech, wanted to drive traffic to their new products line which is used to delivery instant hot water in homes.

We selected the domain name of instanthotwaterpump.com, which is great domain name for the keyword phrase we optimized the site for. That keyword phrase was "instant hot water". The company sells pumps that deliver instant hot water, so we created a niche site, knowing it would have a natural tendency to rank high due to the domain name. We did some research with Keyword Elite to determine that this was the highest volume keyword that would delivery exactly the traffic they needed to sell their products. The combination of a great domain name, a target keyword phrase and press release delivered high dollar results!

The website was done by another company, and was not as well optimized as I would have done, but the owner of the company likes the more graphical look. I would have preferred more content on the home page, but it really did not matter because of the Press Releases we prepared for the client.

We did a series of press releases but only two focused on the keyword phrase "instant hot water". 

Google loves this and here is why.

There is excitement as this Press Release gets virally reproduced throughout the news sites, industry specific blogs and consumer sites. Many of those sites have a HIGH PAGE RANK, which helps build the value of the site in Google eyes. Google loves the excitement of your Press Release and the links going to your site!

Immediately the new site started receiving traffic from the Press Releases themselves, and from the blogs and sites that reproduced the Press Release. The best was yet to come. With in 30 days our web site ranked #2 on Google for "Instant Hot Water".

My cost for both Press Releases totaled $200, but I charged my client several thousand. Here's the best part - their sales on this product climbed over 40%! On average they started receiving 2,000 new inquiries every month on the company's Where to Buy pages. The company's sales at Lowes and Home Depot went through the roof!!!!!!

Tracking Results

Once you start your Press Release program make sure you track your results and take advantage of the information you can learn using a program like SEO Elite. Track your results daily to optimize the results you receive.
