Should I really take steps to Preventing my Identity from being stolen?
Some may think that Preventing themselves from Identity theft is wasted time cause it won't happen to them. Are they wrong? Yes, Identity Theft is one of the number one consumer concerns today and one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States. It effects hundreds of thousands of people yearly.
Prevent yourself from Identity theft and protect the good name you have made for yourself. You have worked to hard to obtain it.
What steps can I take to Prevent My Identity from being stolen?
Never provide your personal information to a request if you didn't initiate the contact.
*A financial institution or prestigious company will never ask for your password*
Review Your credit report regularly. Check for any charges you can't explain, Accounts you didn't open, Inquires from company's you haven't contacted,addresses you don't recognize, etc.
Report any fraudulent activity to one of the three credit reporting agencies so they can place a fraud alert on your report.
*You only have to call one of the three*
Contact the Fraud department of the company in which the fraudulent activity occurred.
Follow up any calls in writing and mail letters certified mail return receipt requested so that you can have proof what the company received and when.
Be Careful of infected emails and downloads.
Be aware of Internet Phishing.
Install a anti virus or spyware protection software on your computer.
