Primitive Decorating With Primitive Country Crafts

A feeling of days gone by, when times were simpler.

Primitive decorating is a feeling. A feeling from way back when. When people did not waste and throw things away. Friends and family were everything. A time when there were no computers, TVs, or cell phones. Entertainment was sitting around talking and sharing.

What is it and can I do it?

What is it?

Primitive Country Crafts are everywhere. Look in your attic, or your grandparents attic. Yard sales, thrift stores and second hand shops are other good sources. Find some old things and get creative! Grab an old wooden bowl and fill it with ornies and grasses or rose hips. Whoa! What are ornies?

Ornies, bowl fillers, tucks and flatties are simply fabric ornaments. Maybe sheep, snowmen, shamrocks, hearts, or flags, just to name a few. Check the eBay box below to see some examples.

And it is so easy to update your display. Let's say you found an old cheese box that you really like. For Christmas you could fill it with Santas and holly or pine. Then for Easter you could put chicks or bunnies and grass. Easy to change!

Can't find anything old?

No problem! You can make things look old. There are tons of easy faux ideas on the web. You can find many "recipes" to make things look old. And many only use regular household items that you probably already have. Some are a little more involved. But you can buy a cheap old plastic bowl from WalMart and turn it into a "primitive treasure".

What are you waiting for?

It's easy. Anyone with a little talent and creativity can do it. Just go to your favorite search engine and start looking for "primitive decorating" ideas. Then you can look for ways to use faux techniques to make things old. Join some primitive groups and forums to get ideas. Before you know it you will have all kinds of primitive country crafts!
