The Professor Layton Game Series

The Professor Layton series are puzzle video games for the Nintendo DS. Sliding puzzles, logic puzzles, and other brain teasers are combined with engaging stories following the adventures of one Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke.

The series was originally intended to be a trilogy, but due to popular demand they've begun a second set of three. They're released first in Japan and appear in other countries later. So far only the first two games, The Curious Village and The Diabolical Box, have been released in the U.S. The third in that set, The Last Time Travel, has been released in Japan. The first of the second set, The Specter's Flute, is due out this Fall.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

In The Curious Village, Professor Layton and his apprentice are invited to St. Mystere to solve the mystery of the Golden Apple. The late Baron had willed that whoever could unravel the mystery would inherit his fortune, but so far no one has managed it. The game has 135 puzzles, which are solved to advance the story and, sometimes, obtain items.

Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel

Professor Layton 3

In The Last Time Travel, Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke, receive a letter from Luke's future self asking for help, as something terrible has happened. Further events see the Prime Minister in their current time kidnapped, and carry them to this future London by time machine. Soon Layton and Luke are interacting with their future selves, puzzling out the mystery in a battle of wits against an old nemesis and new enemies.

So far, this game has only been released in Japan.

Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute

Professor Layton 4

Announced in the spring of 2009 to be released in the fall, The Specter's Flute involves a fog-shrouded town where legend claims a giant menaces the countryside whenever the Specter's Flute is played. Set as a prequel to the original trilogy, this first story in the new trilogy tells how Luke met Professor Layton and came to be his apprentice.

It's said to have an additional RPG game called "London Life" which is unlocked by completing the main storyline.

Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva

This is the subtitled trailer for the animated Professor Layton movie being released in Japan.

The Eternal Diva is set immediately after The Specter's Flute, but the story stands alone. In it, Layton is asked by a famous opera singer to look into the mystery of her friend, who disappeared a year prior, only to reappear later as a seven-year-old claiming to have discovered the secret of eternal life.
