Proper Nutrition Yields a Smart Child
Ranked #11,591 in Parenting & Kids, #429,744 overall
Proper nutrition is essential if you want to have a smart child. Proper nutrition plays an important role in the development of the brain and should start from his formative years while the child is constantly learning new things.
In order for the brain to develop well, it is essential that it gets an adequate supply of the following:
Glucose:
Your child's glucose intake has a direct impact on his blood sugar. Glucose gives our body energy, and it also helps in building an attention span. If your child does not get the required amount of glucose he could complain of feeling drowsy through the day.
The benefits of a good breakfast should not be ignored, and your child's breakfast should have enough glucose to give him energy to last all day long. Not getting enough glucose can result in your child having poor memory and a short span of attention.

Vitamin A & B
While vitamin A is very beneficial in the fetal stage, vitamin B helps release the energy that is derived from glucose.
Beta Carotene is an excellent source of vitamin A, and can be found in most citrus fruits and dark leafy vegetables. With there being over a dozen different kinds of vitamin B, finding them all in one place is improbable, but cereals are often good sources of vitamin B.
Deficiency of vitamin B can leave your child feeling depressed and aggressive.

Folic Acid:
Its role in the formation of white & red blood cells is very crucial. A lack of folic acid in your child's diet can result in him being irritable, forgetful, and lethargic.
A number of fresh vegetables and fruits are excellent sources.

Zinc:
Zinc plays an important role in the communication that takes place in between the brain cells and the nerve cells.
Inadequate supply of zinc in your child's diet can result in your child being unable to solve
simple academic questions. This is a condition commonly referred to as cognitive impairment.

In order to ensure that your child gets a well balanced diet, it is important that he gets a mix of meat, poultry, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, and cereals, along with an abundance of water. In doing so, you will maximize the chances of his doing well at school as well as in other spheres' of his life. But this doesn't necessarily mean that all the bright children have parents that continually check on what and how much their children are eating. There is another way to squeeze in that proper nutrition!
A growing number of parents now recognize the fact that adding different nutritional supplements in the diets of their children can ensure that their children receive all the required nutrition in order to grow well. These supplements can often help in coping with your increasingly busy lifestyle.
When dealing with nutritional supplements it is essential that you remember this adults don't usually have a problem taking supplements as they are aware of the benefits that the supplements provide.
However, children often have an aversion to taking pills and nutritional supplements... they are big, bulky and hard to swallow.
Even if your child were to actually swallow one of those vitamins, the taste of the pill could very well outweigh all the benefits that you might preach to about. Your smart child will probably spit the offending pill out.
However, you do have an alternative to pills, and the first of these alternatives comes if the form of chewable supplements. Most chewable supplements taste quite nice, and this appeals to most children who would otherwise refrain from taking nutritional supplements.
The other alternative is liquid supplements. Our bodies can absorb liquid supplements more easily, and these are even used by adults who do not like taking pills. These can easily be mixed into food and beverages, and young children often like mixing these with their juices, shakes, etc.
It is essential that you pay attention to this aspect of your child's life early on if you want him to do well. Expectant mothers should get an adequate supply of vitamin B so that the fetus' brain develops well.
Also, while not many people recommended that your give a young 2 year old child nutritional supplements, giving them to your child as early as this is not at all a bad idea.
Remember that the smart child who excels in academics does not have anything extra in comparison to your child. The main difference could very well be that he receives proper nutrition in a well balanced, highly nutritional diet.
With this knowledge in your hands, you must now work on identifying your child's eating habits. You should then take corrective measures to ensure that his life changes for the better, and so does yours.
