Things I would do if visiting Puerto Rico
- The beach:
Puerto Rico is a caribbean island so you have beach weather all year long... and beaches everywere! Here is a hint...the best beaches are not located in San Juan and some may argue that they are not even located on the big island. If you come in a cruise and want to go to the beach take a taxi and ask him to take you to Isla Verde, Condado Beach or Ocean Park Beach (I prefer Ocean Park). If you have a longer stay check the beaches at Vieques and Culebra, two smaller islands located in the east coast. - El Morro:
If you are visiting on a cruis ship, this is the fort you see when the ships is about to dock. It was built by the Spanish to protect San Juan from invading countries. It has incredible architecture, cannons, a museum and beautiful views to the see. - Old San Juan:
This is a must. Enjoy the architecture and the people. Buildings date back to the 1500's and there are a lot of cool historic places and stores. Check La Fortaleza, El Morro, Fort San Cristobal, Capilla del Cristo and La Catedral. - El Yunque:
El Yunque is the only rainforest in the US National Park system. It is located in Rio Grande, on the eastern part of the island. Be sure to visit La Coca, its a beautiful small waterfall, with a 30 minute hike.
