How to create an Innovation Culture for your business

Business success is not luck.
Great companies have great products and great service not by chance but by design. To create a business that has delivers a great experience is a relatively simple formula and its all about creating the right environment to foster innovation.

Nothing is more important to any business than the people involved.
Gather a tribe of highly motivated effective people and work becomes play.
Things get done because people want to acheive, not because they are bullied or frightened into action.

What are you doing to reward innovation in the workplace?

A business needs the right people to succeed, and the right people are not just driven by financial reward. People want intercation, meaningful tasks, and a great work experience.

A happy place is an innovative place.

Simple things can encourage innovation.

I think that most people are pretty good and for the most part people want to do a good job and go home at the end of the day with a sense of achievement.

But often the tribe get deflated and uninspired. This is bad for business.

A vibrant and lively environment is vital for a happy and innovative workplace.
You need a happy vibrant and innovative workplace to maintain employees, generate new ideas and generally get things done.

Unhappy people spread depression as their grumpy attitudes rub off on those around them.

Why not change all that. Actively encourage a happy, noisy and effervescent office, factory or ward, well maybe not the intensive care unit.

The point is do things that force people to interact and to innovate, and when they do these things..

Tell them they have done a great job!

Start a culture of innovation. Put a little Purple Sheep in every day.

Innovation Workplace

The modern workplace can no longer be a series people sitting in boxes that only talk through the 'appropriate' chain of command.

Pull out walls; buy some comfy couches and beanbags. Put some bright colours around. Even a little music wouldn't be bad. Keep in mind some people need to focus, and talk to customers on the phone so don't go too crazy.

Just don't be boring.

A boring safe environment encourages boring and safe products and services.
We need our people to feel positive and most of all we need them to be challenged to find new ways of doing things.

A traditional office will not inspire out of the box thinking that is the key to modern business.

The Purple Sheep Award

When someone get's it give it to her.

This sounds fuzzy because it is. But trust me it works.
Every time someone does something remarkable, or just nice, don't let this go unappreciated. Pat them on the back, or better still stick a sheep on them.

Find a symbol, I like sheep, but I am from New Zealand. I'm perfectly at ease with my love of all things woolly.

It needs to be small, permanent and noticeable. I'm talking about a small badge of honour.

Get some Purple Sheep awards and hand them out to people who do something great. They will wear it with pride as you gave it to them as a mark of respect for their great attitude.

Give everyone in the office a bunch of sheep awards and encourage the whole tribe to reward great behaviour. This is an idea virus of sorts and it will rub off. Before you know it people will be trying their hardest to earn more sheep awards

Some people just wont get it, they will see it as childish and silly. Those people are in the wrong tribe, don't worry about them. Focus on the productive people, the ones proud of the purple sheep

Your visitors will notice and ask about the sheep, they will be impressed and keen to work with such a motivated and passionate team. And guess what, they will tell more people.

In the time it took to read this you have gone from stick in a rut to knowing how to motivate your team, find new ideas, cut out deadwood and spread an idea-virus about what a fantastic company you are.

That deserves a Purple Sheep
