Menopause and Condom

Question: I am a 47 year old housewife. My periods have stopped since last two months. Is their any risk of pregnancy now? I am very active sexually with my husband who doesnt like using condoms.

Answer: Hormonal changes occur in woman around the menopausal age-between 45 to 55 years leading to stoppage of periods. The pattern differs-there is sudden stoppage in some, gradual reduction of flow in others, while some witness increased gap between periods finally leading to stoppage of flow. It would be wise to wait for sometime (a few months at least) and use condoms during the time being.

Sex Tonics

Question: Are sex tonics addictive??

Periodic Problems

Question: I am 20 years old girl and have irregular periods. Each month the date shifts by 5 to 7 days. What does this indicate? Am i likely to have problems later? Would it be difficult to get pregnant? What should i do?

Answer: An exact cycle of 28 days is present in only a small proportion of women. A departure of 5 days from the 28 days rhythm is in fact considered as perfectly normal. But any more delay than this calls for evaluation. You can go for a pelvic ultrasound examination to assess the ovaries, and an estimation of the thyroid hormone and serum prolactin levels that would help exclude the common organic causes that can lead to such delay. If all is found normal then there should be no cause for alarm.

Missed my period, is it a sign of pregnancy!!

Question: I am a 21 year old girl in love with a guy for last 2 yrs. We have been physically involved for last 6 months, practicing withdrawal method as birth control measure. A few days ago he partly ejaculated in me. As a precautionary measure against pregnancy I started taking medroxyprogesterone acetate (Deviry) tablets from that day. I got the required dosage from a clinical book. Despite this I missed my period this month. How do I check whether I am pregnant?

Answer: You must check immediately by the testing the first morning urine sample with a help of do it yourself, home detection pregnancy test kit. It is available easily at all chemist stores, and is easy to carry out. Please read the detailed instructions on the pamphlet inside the kit. Withdrawal method (also called coitus interruptus) is a very risky choice as a contraceptive. You should have used some other effective contraceptive. Worse, oral medroxyprogesterone acetate is certainly not recommended as a post coital contraceptive.

If tested positive u must confide in ur parents, and please do not take any other pills without the consultation of a doctor. Please do not go for any other pills on your own.

Overdoing sex??

Question: We have been married for last 14 yrs and enjoy sex at least 5 to 6 times a week. Can this affect our health? What frequency should be healthy? Please advise.

Answer: It speaks volumes about your relationship if you still find sex enjoyable that often. Only couples who are deeply in love with each other can enjoy this kind of physical intimacy. As long as both of you find it enjoyable and exhilarating continue at any frequency you like. There are no medical parameters or set rules on how often you should make love. It certainly doesn't cause any harm to physical or mental health and there is nothing like overdoing sex.

AIDS and Family

Question: I am married and my wife is suffering from AIDS. Can we still make love? What are the chances of me also getting infected if we use a condom? Can i get infected if we have a wet kiss? Can we raise a family?

Answer: The risk of getting infected is very high if you have unprotected sex. Using a condom minimises the risk but it doesnt gurantee 100% protection. Also a wet kiss does not carry any risk unless the partner has ulcers or erosions on the lips or in the oral cavity.
Raising a family is not a wise option, as the chances of child also being infected are very high-as high as 35%.
