Quitting Smoking Side Effects - You CAN Overcome Them!

What you have to realize is that the quitting smoking side effects are at most just temporary. Once you realize this and deal with them in a straightforward manner, your chances greatly increase in finally being able to break free of your dreaded cigarette habit. Will you experience side effects? Yes... you most likely will. The severity and the length will depend on how heavy a smoker you have been.

Over the years, many smokers have experience one or more of the following side effects. Coughing, runny nose, shortness of breath, anxiety, irritability and insomnia. These seem to be the most common. The good news is that the only last for a few weeks. Don't you think it's worth a few weeks of being a little uncomfortable to finally rid yourself of the nicotine addiction??

Instead of dealing with the effects, let's take a look at some common sense advice on how to deal with them.

One of the best proven methods to help you deal with many of the quitting smoking side effects is to become more active in your life. This doesn't mean to go right out and sign up for a gym membership. But it does mean to start changing your daily routine a bit. Take a walk, maybe get out in your garden more.

The more activities you can concentrate on instead of smoking, the better your chances are for success in achieving a smoke free life.

For one, it will help you fight the stress you endure when you quit. Remember, you were addicted to a powerful substance - nicotine. By replacing the times that you usually smoke with alternative activities, you start changing your thinking towards smoking. You start to develop healthy habits. You start feeling better. The cravings that you endure start becoming less. Eventually they disappear altogether.

Is this going to be easy? Of course not. Many smokers quit more than once before they are finally successful. The more knowledge you have on what to expect when you do finally make the decision to throw away your cigarettes, the better your chances are of succeeding.

You just need to constantly remind yourself that whatever symptom you may be feeling, it will pass. The quitting smoking side effects diminish with a period of 3 weeks. Think about that for a second. How long have you been smoking? Years? Decades? It seems quite minor when you put it into the proper perspective don't you think? One final thought. The best side effect that you will experience when you quit is this - You get to live longer!

I am happy to say that after being virtually chain smokers my husband and myself both gave up smoking 12 years or more ago!
