Ah, the Fisherman's Life
Fishing in Rune Factory Frontier is a prime way to make lots of money, raise your cooking skills, and win the hearts of certain eligible maidens.
If you're unfamiliar with this fun rpg/farming game for the Wii, please check out my review Rune Factory Frontier.
Here you'll find a guide to fishing in Frontier, including where to cast your line to find specific fish and make the most money.
Fishing Basics
Your first fishing rod is a gift from Cinnamon, after you find her fishing and talk to her about it. It's just an old cheap rod, but it will do. Find a spot along the water and you're ready to begin.
When you cast your line, a bar will display showing an orange area, a blue area, and a green area. A needle will fluctuate, back and forth. When you hook something, the needle will dive into the green, then move back down, going back into the blue. If you click on this second move up, odds are you'll lose the fish because it's a short one. Best to wait until the third, or more. Stopping it in blue is a success, while green gives you a higher quality fish than you would have gotten otherwise.
What you can catch depends not only on where you're fishing, but also on your skill and the level of your fishing rod. Weather and time of day seem to affect percentages of what types of fish you're likely to catch, as well. Pressing the B button to do the rod's "special attack" increases your chances of catching better fish.
