Resistance Fall of Man

Ranked #6,051 in Games, #282,170 overall

RFOM (Role Playing Game)

Resistance Fall of Man is part video game, part alternative history buff's fantasy world. It takes place before and instead of, WWII.

In 1930's Soviet Russia, our Russian comrades had been undertaking biochemical engineering and testing, when all of a sudden we begin hearing of villages being destroyed overnight, then whole cities.

Still, no one (at least outside of Russia) knew where the Chimera had come from.

We Americans and The British thought that maybe the Russians had developed a biological weapon the which the world had not yet seen, the truth would prove to be a lot worse.

The Chimera stayed put inside Russia for ten years. Then, in 1949, they launched a sneak attack that overwhelmed most of Europe in just weeks.

They didn't attack Britain right away so we all thought they were safe. What we didn't know was that the Chimera had burrowed under the English Channel, and in October they hit Britain.

We in America thought Britain were prepared for the attack, but within three months Britain fell.

The British retreated to scattered military bases and outposts, abandoning the cities to the Chimera. The Chimeran fiends had won.

On July 11, 1951, we Americans launched an assault on the eastern coast of England. On the second wave of that assault was a Sergeant named Nathan Hale. He was a Ranger and his actions have become the subject of scrutiny and myth.

What follows are the known actions of that soldier from July 11th to July 14th, the day he was last seen.

Resistance 2 Public Beta

What is it like?

Well, at first I was confused, and not a little intimidated at the prospect of mixing it up with people who are far better than I am at this game. Though I love to play Resistance I do not delude myself with visions of gaming grandeur.

First, it took me four hours to download 2211 MB of the R2 software onto my console. Perhaps it would have been faster with a hard-wired connection, but I felt it necessary to attempt the download with the connection I use for gaming. Other than the long wait there has been no other glitches to date, though it has only been a few days I have played at least 8 to 10 hours with no problems while on line. That includes checking my stats, as well as that of others, with no lagging and no lost data.

The game play itself was excellent really. The team aspect of this game is awesome, because it shows the absolute need to work together in a combat situation. Having hero's is great and all, but in the Real World heroes do indeed rely on others in order for the events to come to fruition that make them hero's.

By installing medics, soldiers, and special ops personnel Insomniac have given regular folks a taste of how it works when in combat. Other companies have done this before I'm sure; not least among them whoever created the software for the U.S Army game used at all their recruiting events. Sorry, I'm not up on gaming software and the companies that create them. It never seems to be that high on my priority list other than to know who makes the game I am most recently interested in.

I suppose what you are more interested in would be the different classes in which you would participate while in the game. The first class I will discuss is the Medic. You might think the medic would be the least heroic right? You would be wrong if you did. You are given this neat little device that sucks the life right out of your enemies by pressing the R1 button. By pressing the R2 button you can heal friendlies. When a comrade is killed, you can resuscitate him faster than others can, after all, that is your job. As you progress and gain XP points you also unlock more advanced weapons and medic equipment.

The same goes for the other two classes, which are the Soldier, and the Special Operations, or Spec Ops soldier. The Soldier does the obvious things; he kills, he dies. The Spec Ops soldier is responsible for equipping everyone with ammo throughout the missions. And as with the medic, you gain XP points as you progress and achieve great things throughout the game. Unlocking weapons and other gear you become the soldier, or civilian, or whatever as you gain more and more XP points.

It is a bit more complicated than RFOM, but if a 45 year old (decidedly non-gamer) can figure this out, I guarantee those who are use to these types of games will figure it out with ease.

Resistance 2 is going to be a huge success as long as there are not many glitches to contend with. The gun turrets are absolutely murderous, (at least for me and everyone I've played with so far) and they have introduced a rank structure into the Chimeran horde. Above the ranking Chimeran you will see a bar with the number of stars representing the individual's rank, and subsequently the difficulty in taking it down.

Of course there is more, but I haven't reached it yet. As I do I will report it here.

How is The Resistance coming along?

Preparing for the future

Since writing this I was lucky enough (along with thousands of others) to be selected to participate in the Public Beta release of Resistance 2. It has only been a couple days since I have been a part of the Beta, but I can tell you this much; Insomniac has probably hit pay-dirt again with R2 if the graphics on the release game are better than RFOM. Though I loved RFOM, I was not overly impressed with the graphics of that game compared to others like Oblivion for instance. But, that is all behind us right? So check out my write up on R2 in the module below this one, and don't forget to check out Project Abraham.

The small bit of information below is based on the link that accompanies it. It is called Project Abraham .

Much is being done (in secret of course) to battle the chimera that still have their stronghold in Eastern Europe and Russia. Of course, we don't know as much as we'd like about what is happening over there so all America can do is come up with some kind of a defense against the virus that wipes out whole cities at a time.

But we all know what happens in our society when the military or that "dark part of the government" starts to do the slippery things the "blue bloods" know everything about but want none of it to get on them(if you know what I mean). Those things end up getting bigger than can be kept secret for very long (can you say Iran/Contra? We have very nosy journalists in America). We may have one of the greatest forms of governments' and economic systems ever devised, but people still get greedy and will sell anything for a dime... especially top secret information. Or it could be a simple case of conscience as happens in this case. Someone on the inside grew a conscience and "gets the word out" about what is happening to some of our boys in uniform in Alaska.

There is also another link below that is political in nature, BUT do not feel as though I expect you to click on it just because it is there. I'll tell you flat out, I'm a conservative guy, so if you are interested check it out, if not, drive on and have a nice day.

Why is it even here you may ask? Well, I think the promotion of this game, and the condition of America inside the game segues (sort of) relatively smoothly with what this particular video has to say. And I feel strongly about the current political climate of our country. I know things aren't perfect no matter which way we go, but it really scares me to think of America as a quasi-socialist, or just straight up socialist system, and I fear that is where we are headed.
Project Abraham
This content requires the Adobe Flash Player.

Project Abraham

Dr. Cassie Aklin is a psychologist. Her job is to evaluate the soldiers for the Abraham Project, to ensure that they are the right men for the project, which involves the injection of "a serum, or a virus." I can only assume it must be at least a variation of "The Chimeran" virus.

The problem is, our fair doctor has begun to struggle with her conscience as one soldier after another either dies a horrible death or succumbs to incredibly evil illnesses and body deformations due to side effects caused by the serum.

One of those soldiers...dear old Glenn something or other was sweet on our good doctor, and she on him. That is...until she caught site of Nathan Hale's baby golds.

I'll leave the rest for you to find out at "Project Abraham." I think you'll find it rather interesting, and remember, Resistance 2 comes out in November!
Wake up America! Before it's too late!
Look, with all the time you spend on line, why not take a second or two and check out what this site has to say? You just might get your eyes snapped open. And if you can't or don't believe something you read check into it from a reputable source. After that...who knows?

Release Video

If you have the game then you are familiar with this video because it is how the game begins. If you do not have the game, but are into games like RFOM, then I'm sure you've seen this video on Play Station Universe.

The last button in this module that reads Devojt is my Playstation ID itself. If you click on it, you'll only be taken to my profile area on Playstation Network. I just included it here so you could see what it would look like on a web site. You can put it on any Social networking site.

The Widowmaker!

What Do You Think?

Alright, Halo has been out now for what, 40 years? You see what I'm saying. RFOM hasn't yet been out a year, but long enough to sell over a million copies. And lets face it, both games and the heroes that blast their way through the hordes of evil minions are pretty kick-butt!

Neither Master Chief nor Nathan hale take any crap from anybody, human or otherwise. Based on all you know of our heroes, which one is your favorite?

It doesn't matter the reason for your choice. What ever it is that makes your hero, well...your hero is up to you.

Take That!

And That!

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

"Why won't you die?"

That question above in the subtitle rings in my mind even though I am not in front of my PS3. Over and over again my character, the "Crimson Blade," is taunted with quips from my would be slayers that basically, it would better for me if I would just lie down and die.

Why am I talking about Oblivion on my Resistance lens? The reason is simple really. I just, in the past week, started playing Oblivion.

What? How can that be? Oblivion has been out for ever. If not Oblivion, then Morrowind.
I still have never played Morrowind, but I am hooked on Oblivion. much to the chagrin of my wife of 18 years. Yeah, I'm a middle ager, but I'm a kid at heart who got a late start with the gaming console craze, and though I am not trying to make up for loss time, I have a tendency to spend too much time in Cyrodil

I only have three PS3 games, and I don't usually have to make much of an effort to stay away from my console...until now.

I don't have to tell everyone out there about it. You've all played the game already and know how this game sucks the very life out of you until all you can think about is things like "where the hell can I find a black soul gem," or, "how can I do this...or do that other thing."

A few of the quests I've done have been very interesting indeed. The Pilgrimage quest was pretty cool I thought, with the Crusader armor and weapons. But it was the story-line that impressed me the most.

Not just the story line of the Pilgrimage quest, but for me, the entire Oblivion storyline, its history, subplots, and mini-stories, not to mention the books that are found throughout Tamriel are so well written that it is partly the reason why this game is so addictive, I believe.

So, if by some ridiculous coincidence, you, like me, have put off playing Oblivion, but you are into RPG's, then you owe it to yourself to go out and buy the game.

Resistance Is Futile!

Must Have Stuff

If you own a PS3 and haven't yet played RFOM, what are you waiting for? The story line itself is worth the price. But the game play and on line play is...how do they say it? Da Bom. Or something like that.

A Must Have

RFOM Walkthrough

The "Walk Through" is written by Eric Waechter, at Candiedskull.com. He sure knows what he is doing and once I defeated the game "on my own" I went looking for a document on line that would aid me in acquiring the harder skill points, and locating all the intelligence documents.

The difficult part of acquiring the skill points is knowing what to look for. The skill points are NOT identified. You either get them, or you don't. Once you get them, "then" they are listed in your control panel (fat lot of good that does you then huh?). So, I couldn't know which ones I was missing until I got them, and I couldn't get them until I knew which ones I was missing. Understand?
The only walkthrough you will ever need for Resistance: Fall of Man
After beating RFOM on the hardest setting, I wanted to go through the game again, but this time I wanted to take my time and really get the essence of the game.

There is so much to see in the cities and towns, but the real challenge for me, was to attempt to acquire all the "Skill Points" available for completing various tasks.

For instance; If you acquire 10 Intelligence documents you acquire 2 skill points. Each skill point task is named also, to keep things in perspective. Acquiring the 10 documents is called "Reading is fun".

Some skill points are so easy to acquire you almost get them in spite of yourself. Others take...well, lets just say I haven't gotten them all yet. But it sure is fun trying! And the imagination that went into devising these skill points is impressive as well. But you don't only get the points, at various point intervals you unlock certain on line game play upgrades.
There is more to playing the game than just playing the game.

Hey there. Hope you don't think this is spam, but I think you might like to add this lens to the new Video Game Mayhem group I just made. Trust me, this isn't a mass message, and this is the first video game lens I've come across that I actually liked enough to invite.

If not, cheers anyway, and feel free to not approve this comment if you feel it's spam.
