RIP Our beautiful Ashar Cat

Ranked #12,383 in Pets & Animals, #324,869 overall

Meet Ashar!

Ashar would have been 11 years old this Summer. He was a beautiful Grey Tabby and White cat. He was very quiet and calm but quite weary of the Humans around him.

In September 2007 we moved to a new home and Ashar didn't like it at all. He didn't want to stay in the house and we struggled to get in and out whilst stopping him escaping too.

After we had lived here for a month, Ashar did escape one day. He didn't run away straight away. He ran and hid under a car. We tried everything to get him to come out from that car. We left him food. We sat and talked to him. We even left him for several hours hoping he would get scared and come back inside.

After 3 days of being stuck under that car. Suddenly he was gone. We searched the area. We put flyers up and went door to door. For a week we searched high and low. We put ads in the paper and on the Cats protection website. We even contacted the local RSPCA daily to see if anyone had found him but to no avail.

After a month we had to concede and wound down our search. Our Beautiful Ashar was gone :(

Meet Me

jembieSo, I am Jen. I am now into my forties. I have 2 teenagers who are out there making a life for themselves. My daughter Bill is now living and working in Turkey and my son Bret is at college studying Drama and Media.
After working for the government for a couple of years, I am now looking for new challenges.
I hope that I will be able to find something else soon but it is lovely to spend time at home with my other kitties. If I do then I obviously will be editing this to reflect that.

In my spare time as well as making lenses here on Squidoo, I like to post regular tweets to Twitter and maintain my Facebook page. I also like to take lots of photographs of anything that takes my fancy.
I like to collect autographs through the mail by writing to my favourite celebrities and requesting signed photos from them.

I am a real cat lover. We currently have 3 cats in the house and since I was 18 I have always had a cat around the place.

Ashar chose Me

AsharMy Sister had 2 female cats Pepsi and Treacle. They both got pregnant and gave birth to a big litter each within days of each other.
The funny thing was that we were never really sure which She was the mother of which kitten. They would both Nurse all the kittens and looked after them all together as a couple.

Ashar had a twin brother who went home with my other sister and he was named George. I sat down with the the kittens to choose the new member of our family and Ashar just crawled right onto me and fell asleep on my shoulder. So we knew he was the one for us.

When we took Ashar home to meet our other feline family members he latched right on to Pica who was his half brother in a way as they may have had the same mother We were never sure. They then became inseparable. Ashar would follow Pica everywhere and they would always be curled up somewhere warm together
Our other 2 cats Blade and Jason didn't really take to him but that was fine, they just ignored each other and Ashar had his big brother Pica to look after him.

Where Ashar got his name

Well I always like to name my cats after a celebrity or my favourite footballers.
When we got Ashar My favourite player for Derby County FC was Ashley Ward.
AshleyWardJembie
I toyed with calling this little cute kitty Ashley but it didn't seem to fit for a cat. I did almost just call him Ash which would have fit as he is a Grey tabby but i made it longer so that when calling him it would sound better so He became A-S-H-A-R!

Favourite treats

Ashar loved to munch his way through packs of kitty treats when he was happy.

A sad end to Ashar's story

Ashar jembieI miss Ashar every single day. I always feel it was my fault we lost him.

Pica also was very sad and pined for weeks after Ashar disappeared even though he did get annoyed with him sometimes.
It always seemed that Pica couldn't go anywhere without Ashar following. He would find a cool spot to lay down and Ashar would want to curl up with him but you could tell Pica wanted the time to himself and sometimes he would strike out at Ashar. Somertimes though you would see them lying together and Pica would have his arm round Ashar in a protective manner.

I will always regret not being more careful opening the door and letting Ashar sneak out. Even now - 4 years later I Analyze still what I could have done differently to make Ashar come home. I always hope that some other family took him in and he is still happy somewhere with a family that love him and look after him.

Ashar looks a lot like our Tigre that we had for 17 years. We have lost several pets over the years. Each little personality is so special. I have had dreams about them sometimes where they are so real I could touch them. This is a nice tribute to Ashar.
