This has been no less than my fifth rotary powered car. I love 'em. If you own a rotary, you know exactly what I am talking about. If you don't, you owe it to yourself to visit your local Mazda dealership and test drive one. You won't regret it.
Anyhow, I noticed that this topic was available, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Enjoy!

I also gave some thought as to the nature of this kind of site, namely a "lens". The analogy to the camera lens, it's supposed to create a focus on a particular subject matter. But I'm hoping to provide much more than a collection of links, any Google search can do that. I'd like to be able to add some insight to the subject matter as well.
We'll see how it goes.
Getting ready for the Tail of the Dragon
Deals Gap Trip
This will be my first trip to the Dragon. Located in the Great Smokey Mountains between Tennessee and North Carolina, this windy road consists of no less than 318 turns packed into a mere 11 miles of road. Our car club, the Raleigh Rotary Drive-Inn, is heading out April 6th and returning home on April 9th. While we are there, we expect to see literally hundreds of other car enthusiasts gathering to conquer the dragon.
Of course, conquering the dragon is nothing more than a myth. It would be better to say that you "survived" it, and that it didn't kill you.
That reminds me of a valuable lesson I had a chance to survive back in my youth. There was this certain turn I took on my way to work each day. Long and sweeping, it beckoned my each day, whispering in my ear "Take me faster, faster". and each day, I would take it a little faster, til one day, I found myself pinwheeling down the center of the road, holding onto the steering wheel watching the scenery fly by my windshield, repeatedly. When the world finally came to a stop and I released the death-grip I had on the steering wheel, I pulled the car off of the road (which happened to be facing in the direction I just came from), turned it off, and had a cig, or two, or maybe it was three. While I was sitting there, contemplating my extraordinary stroke of luck, I realized that I had found "it". "It" was the fastest that I could take that turn, and "It" was not going to be any faster than that. The next day, I barreled into the that turn again, but this time, not nearly as fast as I was used to. You see, I know how fast I can go there, and I know that I cannot go any faster. The curve will always be there, it was there yesterday, it's there today, and it'll probably still there tomorrow. But my resolve to conquer it no longer has the appeal that it had before.
I'll treat the Dragon with the same respect. And, hopefully, she'll return the favor.
