"The family of Raccoons" Picture is soooooooooo cute! :)

I find that raccoons tend to be underestimated by humans. They are extremely clever creatures and are able to quickly solve problems.

Wow, tons of great stuff here! Your intro photo is adorable! And I love the mailbox and the ideas here you have for reading about and studying raccoons. We used to have a couple that hung out with our barn cats...they actually ate the food out of the cat bowls and the cats wouldn't back off, so they shared dinner every night! I had to keep the kids out of the barn because of them. :) But they were fun to watch!

I was looking at foot prints of trying to figure out what fell into my swimming pool last night and I believe it may have been a raccoon. The foot prints are to big for my small dog and to small for my big dog and none of the cats were out last night. I guess that maybe it was looking for a water source being that it has not rained much in California yet this year and leaned over and fell in fortunately for both of us it was on the steps so it only got a very cold experience and was able to get out as the pool deck had a large wet spot on it. I guess I will have to be careful when I let the dogs out at night as it seems to have very long claws. Huh!! any ideas on how I can discourage it from being comfortable in my backyard? I don't want it to think this is a great place to hang out.

I'm a animal lover at heart too, no raccoons stories but sure loved the read on your lens tonight, 'thumbs up' from me.

I lost a lot of my corn due to raccoons. I bet they look very healthy just like the photo "See our pet raccoon" above... Fun lens!

This is such an excellent learning session. I once saw raccoons in the city, but can't remember seeing them in all the years I lived in rural areas.
  • RecipePublishing Aug 4, 2011 @ 5:01 am | delete
This was such a sweet lens.
  • cstoll Jul 21, 2011 @ 11:56 am | delete
Your lenses are really a pleasure to read - always "punny" and informative. Raccoons are commonplace where I live; it is not surprising to see them crossing the street at dusk.
  • GrandMemories Jul 21, 2011 @ 6:44 am | delete
What an incredible amount of information on these extremely intelligent and mischievous animals! They are always finding ways to rob my bird feeders! :)

Raccoons are very Cool and Strong, most Cats know not to mess with them; unfortunately most dogs have to findout the Hard way.

What a great lens, so much to see and learn, I adore these cute little creatures, but sadly we don't have them here in England, not wild anyway. Thank you for all the hard work that went into putting this Lens together, well worth the effort!

I think raccoons are one of the most delightful animals to see in nature as well as photos and drawings.Unfortunately, if you see one in your yard, you may be in for some troublesome times. Children, of course, she be taught to never approach a raccoon! Such an impressive array of resources you have presented. The children in your world must consider you a saint!

Raccoons in the corn reminded me of the birds in our yellow cheery tree, when we had one. They always enjoyed the harvest before any humans had a chance. : )

Great and Fun Lens! I can feel your passion with these great animals. They are everywhere in our world, and in Minneapolis they get really big! I had a friend who found a stray baby raccoon when hunting, and she followed him to his truck. They are not good pets, but if you have a kind soul, you can raise them until they won't need you.

I remember a number of times the raccoons got into our garage which was a family room breezeway and was eating the from the pet food bin or in the kitchen eating from the pet bowls they are so sneaky lol but so skidish most time they would run off when we headed for them they would run from our dog and sadly be shaking up top a tree I think they are adorable so cute but a wild animal so much information I love your lenses you make teaching and learning wonderful.

We live in the woods, and the racoons can find all kinds of ingenius ways to get into the garbage cans. I don't care what we do, they still find a way in. I still love them though. :)

Well, they are cute and ingenious but they killed all eight of my chickens when I was out of state last year and the battery in my chicken door opener failed! They come up on my back porch every night to see if I've left the chicken food out by accident! They gnaw holes in my deer fence! They are way, way too smart. Great lens.
  • Evelyn_Saenz Sep 27, 2009 @ 6:21 am | delete
Thank you all for your Purple Star greetings. The raccoon is very proud of this accomplishment.

What a fantastic lens. I didn't know raccons like corn. We have some that come up everynight and eat the left over cat food. We all go to the window and watch. Neat how the corn and beans sprout differently. Thanx This is my favorite of favorites now.

Oddly no one cared when the 25 or so on our home were destroyed ..the County gives out FREE BTI corn flakes, killing a lot of wildlife. Yet they say its harmless, despite any evidances I gather or present.
So naturally I had to check out your work here.
Have some stars on me, thanks for bringing the raccoons into view here!
