The Meaning and Significance of Colours
What do the colours of the rainbow mean? Do they affect mood and atmosphere? Do they change our aura and well being? All the answers are here. You will be very surprised at how much colour affects every aspect of our waking lives. ~
~ THE POWER OF THE RAINBOW ~
~ COLOURS AND THEIR MEANINGS ~The power of colour is truly intense. Colour influences mood, aura, harmony and ambience. So when deciding on what colour to wear for a special occasion, or what colour to decorate certain rooms of your home in, you have to think very carefully. Colours have the power to influence every area of your life. ~
A colour can decide and alter your mood. Certain colours are calming whilst others are stimulators. Therefore choosing the right colour is vital to balance and harmony of spirit. So without further introduction I will list the colours and their meanings with the hope that this will enlighten and aid you to find perfect balance, and harmony in all aspects of your life. ~

~ WHITE ~
The first colour I will interpret will be white. White is seen as the colour of perfection. Some may dispute white as being a colour, but white 'is' a colour and is the sum of all the colours of light which add up to white according to additive colour theory...White is the purest of colours, virginal and innocent; White is the colour of peace and tranquility the relinquisher of pain. It is also the representation of serenity and truth. White stands for patience and it is also the colour of healing. White is the major influencer as a protector, keeping us from harm and danger as if surrounding ourselves in the white light of a charging field of positive light. White is relaxing and calming and it is a perfect colour for detracting neutral and negative energy. White represents freedom and it is a colour to languish in.~

~ RED ~
Red is the colour of passion, of fire. Red is a very strong colour and a hard colour to have in a room and to be exposed to for long periods of time. Red incites mood and can have a very negative and arousing effect on the spirit. Red is the colour of anger and rage. It is a very forceful colour which can evoke strong emotions. It will arouse exciting and stimulating emotions. Red represents sexual attraction and strong passion. Red is also a very active colour and promotes energy of spirit. It can also help to unleash creative power. Red is vibrant and energetic and a positive evoker of danger and anger. Think of a bull with the red rag. The Matadors cape. "Something can make you see red" Red ultimately represents passion, anger, fire. ~

~ YELLOW ~
Yellow represents the sun. The life giving source. Yellow stands for energy and awareness, happiness and joy. Yellow is perceived to be a colour of youth and alternately, the colour denoting a coward. To be surrounded by yellow encourages creativity and the ability to follow one's dreams. It is cheerful, sunny, uplifting, and warm. Yellow like the citrus fruit represents freshness and light. Yellow is bright and attention grabbing and not a colour that is used in fashion or used to a great degree in decorating. Yellow represents intellect and thinking and is a colour associated with leaders and spiritual healers. Yellow by its nature is a natural force of uplifting energy. ~

~ PINK ~
Pink is the colour of unconditional and universal love. It represents youth and purity. The symbolism of pink is also of happiness and joy. Pink represents Christianity and spiritual healing, as in a Rose Quartz crystal which you would energise by the suns rays. Pink signifies an opening of the spiritual self. It also strongly represents femininity, love and romance. Pink promotes feelings of tenderness, and caring. To give a pink carnation to a lover means means "I will never forget you". Pink signifies contentment and acceptance. It also represents relaxation and serenity. Pink is a calm colour taking the best qualities from both, red and white. ~

~ GREEN ~
By all that it is, green symbolises nature, fields, grass, freshness and fertility. Green is also the most natural colour that the human eye can fall upon and be at ease with. It is a calming, serene, and a very relaxing colour. Green represents being at peace with oneself, being at ease. It symbolises growth and learning and it is also known to have healing power, hence it is often a colour that you will see in hospitals upon the walls of the wards. As the colour red stands for danger, so it is that green represents safety. It can also stand for a novice in any given field. Green also represents money and stability. It can also be seen to represent jealousy ambition, and greed. Ultimately green is fresh, natural and a colour of hope and life force and renewal. ~

~ ORANGE ~
Orange is no doubt, a very warm and very comforting colour. It gives out the feeling of heat and nurture. The representation of orange is stimulation, joy and happiness. Orange has elements of red and it promotes determination, success, and enthusiasm. Orange is associated with the mouth and sense of taste and it can also stimulate appetite. Therefore Orange is associated with sex and food also. Orange is a weakened down version of red and not quite so fiery or sexual a colour, more a colour to represent desire. Orange is also seen as a stimulating colour and it can evoke energy of spirit. Ultimately, orange represents positive energy and warmth. ~

~ PURPLE ~
Purple represents sense of direction and it is a highly spiritual colour and it signifies magic and mystery. Purple is not a natural colour associated with nature and is more popular with children who are more open minded to its beauty, than with most adults. Purple is stunning and stands for creativity, nobility and extravagance. Purple is also a colour associated with Royalty as it is seen to have power connections. It represents ambition and luxury, opulence and indulgence. It is also a highly romantic and nostalgic colour. A deep shade of purple can invoke feelings of doom and gloom. Purple signifies the church, religion and a higher power. It also represents the spirit of the human soul. ~

~ BLUE ~
Blue is a wonderful colour and it represents the colour of the sea and the sky. It also symbolises the night and the moon. Blue is an extremely calming colour and is beneficial to both body and mind. Blue represents tranquillity and sincerity of nature. It has the qualities of both, stability and wisdom, of intelligence and faith. It represents truth of spirit and loyalty. It also symbolises water and cleanliness and is a perfect colour for the bathroom. It is used in the marketing of bottled spring water and is very much linked to the intellect and professionalism. Hence navy blue is used a lot for uniforms in business and particularly air travel, being linked to the sky also. Blue exudes authority and knowledge, integrity, stability and confidence. Blue is not a good colour to use in the kitchen or around food as it is an appetite suppressor and it will have an adverse affect. Blue ultimately represents Heaven and divinity. ~

~ BLACK ~
Although black is not a colour, I thought it would be useful to include its representations within this article as the meanings are highly interesting. "Black is not a colour; a black object absorbs all the colours of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them to the eyes". Black is associated with evil, the occult, the devil, death and the unknown. Black is extremely negative and denotes mystery, power, strength and grief. Black is aggressive but unlike red, it is without passion. Black represents formality, mystery, fear, darkness and the moon. It symbolises magic, as in black magic, ritual and its ultimate representation of death. ~

I hope you have enjoyed my interpretation of the significance and power of the spectrum. The beauty and meaning of colour has much more impact than we realise. It really is a remarkable insight and I will take my new found knowledge and use it wisely.~

- I really enjoyed this lens! But even after all these detailed descriptions I can't pick one color as my favorite - my world is only harmonic, fun and bright if I can have them all... The only one I could go without is black.
Thank you, Christianna! :)
