Red Earth - About Us

For nearly 30 years Red Earth, Inc has been recognized as the primary multi-cultural resource in Oklahoma for advancing the understanding and continuation of Native American traditional and contemporary culture and arts.

The Red Earth Museum hosts a diverse and changing schedule of traveling exhibitions and is custodian of a permanent collection of more than 1,400 items of fine art, pottery, basketry, textiles and beadwork - including the Deupree Cradleboard Collection, one of the finest individual collections of its kind in North America. The Red Earth Museum, located at Science Museum Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, has benefited more than 130,000 annually.

When the 23rd annual Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival opens at the Cox Convention Center Friday June 5, 2009 in downtown Oklahoma City, OK, more than 1200 American Indian artists and dancers from throughout North America will gather to celebrate the richness and diversity of their heritage with the world. For three exciting days Oklahoma City will be at the center of Native American art and culture in America.
Red Earth Educational Programming
"What is this rattle made of?" "What's a parfleche?" These are some of the questions you can hear shooting through the Red Earth Museum as students explore the exhibits and handle the sample artifacts in the Education Room.

Red Earth schedules educational activities throughout the year. The museum is pleased to host arts demonstration and cultural activities throughout the year. Storytellers, basket weavers, and others utilize traditional Indian methods and arts to engage all ages in exploring historic and contemporary Native America.

Tribal Flags - Red Earth Museum
Oklahoma is home to 39 American Indian tribes. Each tribe has their own language, culture and government. Several tribes have historic ties to the area of land known as Oklahoma. In a period of time spanning fifty years, all tribes were located to specific areas in Oklahoma City by federal government through treaties, legislation or executive order.
