About Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation
Christopher Reeve's Legacy
Christopher sought out the organization following his injury in 1995. As Christopher said, "I have always been a crusader for causes I believe in. This time, the cause found me." Christopher shared the American Paralysis Association's belief in a cure and lent his name, passion and drive to the organization which ultimately became known as the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
Together, we've come a long way. The research progress in recent years has been outstanding. Awareness and perception of spinal cord injuries has shifted dramatically, both in the scientific community as well as in the general public. Today, our belief in a cure is shared by the neuroscientists, researchers, clinicians and, perhaps most importantly, thousands of people living with spinal cord injuries and their families. The momentum is ours. We will Go Forward.

The ADA at 20: An apppreciation and a challenge
We broke the World Record!

What an incredible day for the paralysis community! It was such an achievement to gather so many members of our community together to commemorate the historic 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. (ADA photo by Gil Garcetti.)
On behalf of the Reeve Foundation, we want to thank everyone who joined us yesterday. It was a VERY early morning for most of the attendees and we appreciate your efforts to help us break the Guinness world record. Special thanks to our friends in the Los Angeles disability community who helped recruit their members and constituents and kudos to our ambassadors who turned out en masse to participate.
The day began bright and early in the Dodger Stadium parking lot, with the iconic stadium sign right behind us. After a few welcomes and introductions, Reeve Foundation ambassador Ali Stroker (pictured) began the program belting out the National Anthem like only Ali could. Gary Karp, whose list of distinctions is too long to list, served as emcee and demonstrated his impressive juggling skills. We were also joined by Josh Rawitch, VP of Communications for the LA Dodgers, Mark Ridley Thomas, LA County Supervisor, Mayra Fornos, founder of Ralph's Riders and David Geffen, ADA lawyer.

Reeve's Foundation - One Degree of Separation
Help Donate $5 or more to find cures and change lives.
One in fifty Americans is now living with some form of paralysis. Each of us is only a degree or two separated from somebody who is affected by paralysis. They are people, like you and me, trying to earn a living, raise kids, and pursue happiness in all its forms. We assure you, each one is more than a statistic and not defined by a wheelchair.
We're working as a community to raise $1,275,000 -- one dollar for every person who is affected by spinal cord injury. Cures are within our reach if we have the resources we need. We are all in this together!
Help spread the word, Visit us at One Degree of Separation.
Meet some of the people affected by paralysis -- fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters. Caregivers, researchers, even Superman fans.

The Merger between Life Rolls On and Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation
Life Rolls On

Life Rolls On, a division of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, exists to be a resource that provides hope and is an advocate on behalf of young people whose lives have been affected by spinal cord injury (SCI). LRO utilizes action sports to push the boundary of possibility for those with SCI.
Who is Life Rolls On?
LRO is the story of able-bodied individuals, working in concert with those with spinal cord injury, to motivate each other with the inspirational message of achievement in the face of extreme adversity.
Life Rolls On utilizes action sports through our flagship program, They Will Surf Again, which pushes the boundary of possibility for those with spinal cord injury (SCI).
They Will Surf Again (TWSA), a no-cost program underwritten by Life Rolls On and generous underwriters, is the flagship program of Life Rolls On.
TWSA utilizes a surfing experience to push the boundary of possibility for those with SCI. It's not all about the surfing, it's about showing that anything is possible!
Individuals with spinal cord injuries from around the country gather together for a day of surfing, inspiration and camaraderie. Some have not surfed since their injury, some have never surfed, some surf all the time despite their varying mobility. TWSA pairs roughly 7 volunteers with each surfer, for a day of excitement, joy, and best of all, surf!
Safety precautions and experienced watermen (and women), along with lifeguards are always present. No prior surfing experience is necessary.

Quality of Life Grants
Program Overview

The Reeve Foundation Quality of Life Grants Program awards grants to non-profit organizations that provide services to individuals with paralysis.
Quality of Life grants, conceived by the late Dana Reeve, are awarded to programs or projects that improve the daily lives of people with paralysis, with some emphasis on, but not limited to, paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries. She started the Quality of Life grants program to recognize and support organizations that help disabled individuals, their families and caregivers in ways that more immediately give them increased independence, day-to-day happiness, and improved access.
Funding is awarded twice yearly to programs in three broad categories that are called the ABCs of Quality of Life: Actively Achieving, Bridging Barriers, and Caring and Coping.
Actively Achieving projects enable people with paralysis to get out and live -- ride a bike, compete in sports, climb a mountain, hike a trail, train for a job, play with friends on a totally accessible playground, work out in a fitness program and much more.
Bridging Barriers projects help people with paralysis to overcome obstacles to full participation in society --operate voice-activated computer technology, modify homes and buildings to make them wheelchair accessible, help with legal problems, access transportation services, and more.
Caring and Coping projects help take care of both the individuals with paralysis and the people that care for them -- caregiver support and respite, peer networks, support groups, counseling, consumer and healthcare professional educational conferences, specialized training for healthcare professionals and more.
Some Quality of Life grants are funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #1U59DD000338). These grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that address that needs of people living with paralysis caused by spinal cord and other injuries, diseases and birth conditions, including (but not limited to) stroke, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and amyotrophic lateral scleroses (ALS).
The Reeve Foundation gives special consideration to organizations that serve returning wounded military and their families, and to those that provide targeted services to diverse cultural communities.
Since 1999, the Reeve Foundation has provided almost 1,600 grants totaling nearly $13 million to organizations worldwide that help improve opportunities, access and day-to-day quality of life for individuals living with paralysis and their families. This program recognizes the unique and numerous needs of these individuals and the importance of providing services and programs that enable them to participate in all areas of life.
