Thanks for reading up on my Lens called Reg Cure. We all know the headaches that come with a slow computer. If only our computers stayed up to speed like when we first bought them. Well in my Lens, I'll tell you about the Windows registry and how it effects your computer's performance. I'll also include lots of ways of getting your computer's speed back to what its supposed to be running at!
Introduction
The Windows registry...
Remember how fast your computer was when you first bought it, or when you installed Windows? It was nice and fast, with programs opening up instantly. You're probably experiencing a very slow system right about now, or if you're not, then you're still running a freshly installed Windows. What happens all the time, is your computer will slow down until it becomes very frustrating to use.Basically, your Windows registry will get clogged up with so much info, that it takes extra time to perform even trivial tasks. Your computer will take longer to start up, programs will take longer to open, causing a frustrating pain in your daily life.
What you need to know though, is that you can do something about it, without the requirement of being a computer expert. A registry clean up can be performed by yourself in a few easy steps.
The main problem for you, as an average computer user, is that there are quite a number of registry clean up tools available. Which one do you choose, and more importantly, which one will work properly without ripping you off?
The answer here, is proper research, knowledge, and experience. You'll find a wealth of information on the internet through search engines, forums, blogs and articles.
Through my own experience and research, I've come across this registry clean up tool. Click here to read more about it!
More about the registry
Lets talk more about the registry, and the reasons for your computer slowing down.
When you install or download new programs, new information is added to the registry. When multiple users use the same computer under different profiles, then all the personalized information is also stored within the database.
System critical information is also stored within the registry such as kernel operations, runtime information about performance counters and hardware that is currently running on the system.
Already when you begin to use your brand new computer, with Windows just installed, the registry is packed with a huge amount of data. You cannot operate Windows just like this, so naturally, you are going to install at least several important programs, such as graphics card tools, dvd applications, multimedia programs, an anti-virus, and also games.
The added information to the registry, is quite large, when adding all of these programs, as the registry needs to maintain these new programs, and know the file locations on your hard disk, as well as all the littlest of settings in order for that specific program to run. You can imagine how big your registry can become.
So you're probably asking yourself now: What if I just uninstall or delete the programs that I don't use anymore. Surely this information will be deleted out of the registry. The answer, not actually! A lot of the information, is still stored behind, even though you uninstall the programs. It's sort of a history that your computer keeps, of all the programs you have ever used on your pc. All of your actions, settings, etc, are stored within the registry. Your registry then sits with thousands of entries, which don't point anywhere, but it still keeps "tabs" on this information.
So now you're sitting with a registry stuffed with information, and you're trying to run basic programs, while your registry tries to find relevant information through heaps of irrelevant information. Even your computer takes longer to start up, as Windows processes a lot of information within the registry when it logs you into your profile.
After saying all that, I'm sure you're wanting to clean all that up, and get your computer to run at its most efficient state! A registry clean up is the first thing you can do to return your computers health back to 100%
Can you manually repair your registry?
You'll probably wonder sooner or later, if its possible for you to manually clean up your registry...
While you work on your computer everyday, depending on what you do, invalid entries are continuously added to the database. A registry clean up tool can be programmed to automatically sift these out for you, of which it takes only a few moments to complete.
More ways to keep your computer up to speed!
1) Make sure you're virus free! Install an anti virus program, and make sure you've updated it to use the latest version. Following this with a full anti virus computer scan, will find all known viruses and trojans hidden on your computer. This is very important, as viruses can cause some very serious harm to your computer, and your privacy.
2) Disk defragmentation Defragging your disk can offer you more disk space and increased system efficiency. You'll find that this will offer a bit extra speed when your system needs to access your hard drive.
3) Uninstall unwanted programs. On anyone's pc, you'll always get a lot of programs that are never used. This uses up disk space, system resources, as well as clogging up your registry. It is a good idea to remove all of your unwanted programs on your computer, leaving only programs that are necessary. You can start up your registry clean up tool to clean up the left over entries that your uninstalled applications will leave behind.
4) Keep Windows up to date This is a task that will already be running on almost anyone's computer. If, for some reason, you haven't got your automatic Windows updates enabled, then I suggest you do enable it once in every while. System security will be kept up to date
5) Get more physical memory. Getting more ram, can greatly increase system performance. For the price you pay for ram these days, you can't really use the excuse that you can't afford it.
6) Stop Windows services that are not needed. To be done by computer experts only. If you know which services are not needed, why leave them on? They only use up extra system resources to run.
