The Story of Reiki
A little history of where it all began
A Little Reiki history as told to me by my masterA little Reiki history told to me by my master, obviously now in my own words but the facts remain the same.
I believe that the Reiki story as we know it today began in the early 1800's it was around long before that but due to translation problems and secrecy it only became more talked about then.
The story begins in the early 1800's when Mikao Usui a Christian Minister who was at the time a university lecturer at Doshisha university in Japan was questioned by his students about the methods that Jesus had used to heal, unable to answer Usui began to research and spent the next ten years trying to not only find out the method but also to learn it himself.
Through his research he came to realise that the healing methods had been all but lost, and that sacred documents were held by Buddhist monks but he was unable to translate them as they were in ancient Sanskrit and he was told they only way the to find out more was to study the Buddhist teachings and follow the path of enlightenment.
Mikao Usui travelled to America where he was to live for the next seven years he worked at the University of Chicago Divinity School, He received he Doctor of theology degree there and studied various religions and different philosophies. Here he learned to read Sanskrit which is the ancient language of Tibet and India. But still he learnt no more of the healing method that he sought.
Now knowing Sanskrit he returned to Japan and lived in a Zen monastery.
It was here that he found the ancient Sanskrit texts he was looking for, they described the healing methods that were used by Jesus and he could now translate them for himself.
They spoke of this energy but there was no information on how to active this energy to make it work. This information had purposely been hidden to keep this powerful knowledge out of the wrong hands.
He decided he must go through the test as was written.
This test was a hard one it required Usui to undertake a period of three weeks of fasting prayer and strict meditation, He choose a site on top of the Koriyama mountain in Japan.
He piled up 21 small stones to mark the days that he stayed there and would at the end of each day throw one stone away until the pile was gone.
On the very last day of this test just before the dawn came Usui saw a beam of light coming towards him, He panicked slightly then composed himself and knew he must accept what was to come with faith,
If was to pass this test. This light hit him in his third eye and he saw hundreds and thousands of tiny rainbow bubbles of light He then saw as if being played on a movie screen the Reiki symbols we know today, As he saw them he was given the meaning s of each symbol by thought and the information on how to use them to activate the energy. This was the first Reiki attunement.!
Now Mikao Usui was attuned to the same energy that the original Buddha and Jesus had used he made his way back down the mountain. After all those days of fasting and meditation he was a little unsteady on his feet and as he walked down he stumbled and stubbed his toe quite badly on a rock his instant reaction was to grab his toe in his hands, Almost instantly his hands became very hot and the pain began to ebb away.
He was astonished he had healed his own toe without even intending to.
Reiki can activate at any time it is needed even unconsciously.
As he made his way down the mountain he came across one of the villagers daughters who was clutching her swollen face she had the most awful tooth ache, Usui placed his hands on the sides of her face and again his hands heated up and the young girls pain eased off and ceased.
He arrived back at the Zen monastery and found one of the head monks was almost bed ridden with arthritis he went to his side and laid on his hands and again the monks pain eased he too was healed.
Mikao Usui named this healing energy Reiki, Which means Universal life force energy.
Later he took his gift into the slums and was to heal many beggars and the poor.
It was ironic when they turned on him for healing them as he had taken away their way of getting money now healed they could no longer beg for food and needed to work which a lot of them simply didn't want to do. He realized that the Reiki had healed the bodies but you can't heal someone's soul if they are not willing to heal.

So what is Reiki?
A little about Reiki energy
Reiki is an energy a powerful universal energy.The word Reiki translated simply means universal life force energy.
This life force energy flows through every living thing,Reiki is a healing energy and is intelligent it flows where it is needed most.
Illness and disease result from blockages in our body,which affect our natural flow of Ki(energy)
Reiki clears these blockages and allows the Ki free from blockage to flow correctly
It has the ability to heal the mind the body and the soul.
Reiki healers have been given the ability to channel this energy to heal people animals or even plant life. All living things respond to Reiki.
It brings us Balance and peace and harmony on all levels emotionally,spiritually, mentally and most importantly if your in pain physically.
The great part about Reiki is you don't have to take your clothes off O:) unlike many other therapy's
The Reiki healer will either hover their hands just above you or lightly place their hands on specific points around your body.
These are usually the main chakra points but more about chakras later.
A healing session will usually take anything from an hour up to 1 1/2 hours sometimes much less it all depends on the condition to be treated. Many very serious complaints need more than one Reiki session usually after the first one the healer should be able to tell you if you need anymore.
Some people who are perfectly healthy still have regular Reiki sessions its highly likely thats what helps them stay so well.
It is a very special energy.
It changed my life in indescribable ways.
