Top Three Tips for Stress Free Relocation with Kids
Ranked #11,957 in Parenting & Kids, #457,423 overall
Moving with your kids doesn't have to be impossible.
There are many different ways to provide these things to your kids, and you should always do the things that you feel will work best for you. I am writing this to give parents and idea of some steps they can take in order to make moving less difficult on their kids as well as their entire family.
Tip #1 - Plan Ahead.
Planning for your move can make it easier to handle.
Moving is a moment in life that can really bring the world down around a person. It is moments like these when people finally break, giving into the overwhelming levels of stress that seem to keep building. Instead of giving into these feelings or letting things get out of control during your move, you should always plan ahead so that you know what is coming and how to deal with it.Relocation is a task that is actually made up of multiple little tasks. Each one of these mini tasks must be completed in order for the overall move to be considered a success. In order to make sure that these tasks are all covered, you need to create something to help you remember. There will be so much going on at one time, you are sure to forget something along the way.
A moving checklist can help you do just this. Having things written out in a list form that you can check off as they are completed can really put the move into a perspective that you can cope with. While there will still be lots of things going on, you can be sure that none of those things will be forgotten or neglected along the way.
Another way to help you get your move into perspective and plan ahead is to look into various moving services available to you. Some moving companies have moving consultants that will be happy to come to your home and assess the situation. They can help you build a budget, checklist, and schedule that will allow you to get everything accomplished on time without the trouble that organizing a move on your own would. Keep in mind that there are long distance moving services for long distance moving and separate local moving services for short distance relocations.
While there are plenty of resources out there, most moving guides say something similar when it comes to planning in advance. No matter how you do it, planning ahead is imperative if you want to have a stress free move. Knowing what still needs to be accomplished as well as what has already been done is a great way to reduce the stress, keep track of people, and stay in control of the job. Your kids will surely thank you as you are a much more capable parent when you are not overwhelmed and stressed to the limit. Remember, your kids will feed off of your own emotions, so allowing them to see you calm and collected while completing complex tasks will go a long way to help in the current situation as well as in the future.
Tip #2 - Choosing the Right Way to Move
Pick the right moving method for your family.
There are many different ways to move these days, and you need to be aware of all of your choices before you finalize your moving plans. Moving with kids can be stressful and complex, so it may be best to choose a company that will come in and move your things for you. Many long distance moving companies offer this kind of service for a move across state lines. Most of these companies also offer free moving quotes as well to help you decide if that method is the right one for your moving budget and needs. The best thing to do if you are considering a moving company is to collect information before you settle on a method or a company.Moving truck rentals are another way to move easily if you have kids. There are plenty of truck rental companies out there that offer this service, and you can often choose from cheap truck rentals of various different sizes. The size that you get depends on the things that you are moving, so make sure that you take this into consideration before you attempt to finalize a reservation for a specific truck.
Other moving services that are available to you today include portable storage containers as well as self pack moving companies. These are just two other methods that you can employ to get your belongings moved from one place to another in a timely fashion. The method you will end up with should be the one that fits your specific needs.
Finding the right moving method is not as hard as it may seem. Simply remember to ask the companies that you speak with what services they offer, what the costs are, and what happens if something goes wrong. For example, it is probably not a good idea to choose interstate movers if your moving budget will not allow the finances to pay for it. It may be better to get a truck to rent or a cheaper moving service where you do the packing. No matter what you choose, just make sure that you are able to accomplish what you need to with the services the company offers.
Each child is different, so you will be the only one who can tell which method is best for your family. Special needs kids, such as those with autism, will have an exceptionally difficult time dealing with the change. In these cases, a truck rental and minimal intrusions is probably the best choice. For other children, such as those who are very young or need a lot of help, hiring professionals might be the best idea.
Tip #3 - Consider Extra Services
Car shipping or loading help can really cut the stress.
As you already are aware, there are a multitude of things that need to be accomplished over the course of moving. What you may not realize, is the fact that there are plenty of moving companies out there that are willing to help with just a small part of your move. Specialty companies have different areas of expertise, and some of the most popular are the packing, loading, and car shipping services.Companies that offer packing and loading services are locally based and do not leave their area of operation. You should consult your local phone book or internet directory in order to find the right company for you. Make sure that they are willing to provide you with the service that you want and need. Good companies should provide a representative to come to your home in order to give you an accurate price estimate. Keep in mind that some companies charge per hour while others charge based on the volume of goods.
Having these extra services can really help you cut down on the stress level when you have children. Keeping your kids busy and out of trouble, as well as caring for their daily needs can add a lot to a move. Inviting others into the home to take care of some of the larger tasks, such as packing or loading a truck rental, can give you back a lot of the time that you would otherwise lose. In the end, this time can go a long way in helping you keep the stress to a minimum as well as remaining in control.
Auto transport is another extra service that can help you when you are moving with kids, especially if you have older kids who are driving or who have cars. The basic premise of car shipping is that you load your car onto a large truck that transports it to your new home or destination. When you have kids, or multiple cars, this can help by allowing you to only have to worry about a single car in which you and your family will travel to your new place in. If you have rented a truck, then shipping all of your vehicles can save you tons of the cost of fuel and the keeping up with your children. Having both parents readily available can only help the moving situation.
Moving with Kids
Following moving tips can help keep things in perspective.
Keep these things in mind as you hurdle towards the day in which you will no longer reside where you are currently. Print these out and hang them on the wall or find other printables that can help you keep up with everything that is going on. Remember, information can help you survive your move without dealing with high stress levels and other problems associated with such stress.

I think that kids have a unique point of view that can provide ideas or concepts to the process that an adult may not have thought of in the beginning. This can help a relocation project by providing new and fresh insight into the problems that are associated with moving. These ideas are so different because of the fact that a child may not see the big picture, but in the end, these ideas might just make moving that much easier.
Should children be involved in making relocation decisions?

I'd value their opinion but ultimately the parents must decide what's best.
