ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is diagnosed commonly in the United States. Various natural remedies for ADHD Children are available along with more traditional prescription drug treatments. It is thought that anywhere from 3 to 5 percent of school age children worldwide exhibit symptoms of ADHD. There is no one cause of ADHD, but it is thought that genetics, diet, environment and various medical conditions can contribute to the condition. Symptoms include inattention, hyperactivity, trouble listening or focusing on tasks, forgetfulness and aggressive behavior. Boys are about three times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than girls. A decrease in symptoms can occur with drugs, natural remedies or a combination of approaches. Traditional prescription medications have been successful in alleviating symptoms at least over the short term but many parents are concerned with the numerous and serious side effects these drugs can sometimes cause. Drugs are often prescribed with the intent to discontinue treatment as ADHD symptoms abate in early adulthood. Recent studies have found, however, that more and more adults in their 20's and 30's are taking ADHD drugs that were initially prescribed in childhood. As yet, the long-term effects of these drugs are just not fully known.
Some people who have tried various natural remedies for ADHD have reported a decrease in symptoms. Each child, (or adult with ADHD), is unique and there is probably a treatment, program or medication, or combination that will work best.
Natural remedies for ADHD children take more time to work but can work well with less side-effects over time.

So what's it really like to have ADHD? What is ADHD? And does it really exist? A lot of people assume I'm anti-drug therapy. This is not true. What I'm against is hasty prescriptions without trying other alternatives. I believe drug therapy should come later in the list of options. But everyone is different and the simple fact of the matter is, prescription drugs do work for many people. Just make sure you're making an informed decision when you turn to meds.
