Blast from the Past

Take 15 minutes and smile- these shows, sports figures and cartoons will take you back!

Some times, especially during tough times, it's nice to turn back the clock and smile about the past- not to mention it takes me back to a more wholesome time. The stuff I grew up watching on reruns were the same shows my dad grew up watching. If you have a few minutes to kill during the busy day you won't, but if you take a few minutes out of your busy day you will smile and think back. I can hear the Little River Band playing in the background right now- Reminiscing.

Come on back with me now

This has been more fun for me than for you. It's often said that it is more blessed to give than receive. Well what a blessing it can be to brainstorm your past. Not the bad stuff but the good stuff. The memories. Sweats and a cup of coffee stuff if you know what I mean. If you were born in the 70's- grew up in the 80's- learned how to learn in the 90's- and became a man or woman in the last decade then hopefully this lens will take you back. I am not one to live in or dwell on the past. I get bored easily when listening to the same story told over again. I don't like small talk. I do like to reminisce. I hope you enjoy this compilation of my memories and I hope they are yours as well.

The Best of Saturday Cartoons

Thundarr the Barbarian, I tried to think of the name of this cartoon for years. Obviously, for years before Youtube, web 2.0 and now it seems hard to not find something you're looking for.

My Montreal Expos

A nice tribute with all the familiar faces. As a little kid at age 6 I always looked forward to watching the Cubs, Braves and Reds play the Expos. The red white and blue colors really caught me eye- the irony that they were one of the two Canadian teams. Tim Raines, Gary Carter, Andrew Dawson, Tim Wallach.

Andy Griffith

I can hear the whistling introduction right now. This is my favorite Barney line. It's short and sweet but oh so Barney. It's in the middle of this clip when they stumble upon the high school yearbook. Barney I didn't know you were in the Spanish Club- Si.

The Best of Seinfeld

What a great compilation of Seinfeld quotes! I can watch these episodes over and over again. Come on back with me why don't you!

Lance Russell and Dave Brown with Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee

Wow does this take me back. This was a regional wrestling show on Saturday mornings. It was filmed in Memphis Tn, Louisville KY and I believe Nashville from time to time. I haven't been interested in Wrestling since High School but it was funny to see how many of the big superstars got their start on the little show.

Reminiscing about 70's and 80's sports is also pretty cool. Magic-Bird-Dr J. Ryne Sandberg and Andre Dawson anyone? Dan Marino and the Dolpins versus Joe Montana and the Niners. Randy Macho Man Savage and Elizabeth. I guess we'll call the WWF a sport for these purposes.

I don't have a monopoly on reminiscing. There are people who post this stuff daily. I have just scratched the surface. This is the tip of the iceberg. I bet there are blogs with just Saturday Morning Cartoons. I bet there are blogs or other lenses about Sports stars from the 70's and 80's. What about a blog about old video games? What about a lens just focused on Andy Griffith or Seinfeld- I bet there out there.

I miss the good old days., but I live for today and hope and plan for tomorrow. Peter J Daniels says he hates being with people his own age "they are always glorifying the past, it wasn't that good- I was there." I don't keep pictures and I don't take enough time to quickly capture those special moments from the past. I'm a driver and a productivity nut, so an exercise like creating this lens feels unnatural the entire time I type. It's good for me though. Especially on a Saturday morning when the kids are with the grandparents, the temperature is a chilly 25 degrees and my coffee is by my side.
